Poll: Targeting affiliate content to women

In the past few years, the online gaming industry has seen a significant increase in the amount of women participants.

In light of this, I am currently looking into how this affects affiliates and how the affiliate industry may change in the near future.

I wanted to get an inside look and who better to ask than the GPWA community!

No part of my site specifically targets women, but since I have a large number of free slot games, and I have decent exposure in Pinterest, I would say that most of my traffic is female.

I didn't answer the poll since I felt my answer wasn't really an option.

Many of my sites are just general and do not necessarily cater to men or women, most of my sports sites were built with the male in mind although I have no problem if woman want to use my links for sportbooks (LOL).

However, I actually have a site or two that caters to and is geared for female audiences.

We do not provide female oriented content It's a man's world.

Now seriously, the biggest high roller in the online gambling industry I have ever heard of was a female.

I tried to promote pokerstars for women in the past and didn t work well.

I find that specific games seem to attract more men or women and some have a pretty even split. With this in mind I try to cater to the demographic that represents the most traffic.

Currently or visitors are 92% male.
But I will watch the demographic to see if it changes.

How would you "promote to women" Sam?

I suspect that most efforts consist of making something pink and putting icons of shopping, makeup, and models / Kardashians.
I think that's so far from the mark - and borderline insulting.

I'm interested if you are seriously going to discuss EXACTLY what you have seen working for affiliates?

I target mostly male but I do target women for bingo bonuses and stuff

Although we're not targeting female players per se this is something we're busy looking into.

I've also had the privilege of interviewing some of the women that are making some serious waves in our industry. So, I guess from this perspective we are busy attracting female players.

They are, in no particular order:

Definitely, a lot of what I've seen so far has been quite extreme. I'm talking all pink, falling glitter, kittens, rainbows... and yes, many women find this offensive. Women can enjoy a lot of the same content as men but I'm thinking small changes in strategy can have a better impact, and also make sure the site friendly to both genders to not eat away at current market share!

I'm still in the early stages of my research so I'm still working on finding out what has worked best for affiliates so far! I'm hoping to learn more through this thread and will definitely share any interesting findings

No problem! The main reason I posted this topic is to get a feel of what you, the affiliates, do to target women, if anything at all. I am really interested in the topic of Women in iGaming and how this will shape the industry in the near future. I think the increase in female players can be an interesting opportunity for many affiliates and I'm looking into how they can leverage this new demographic.

As you would probably assume, working at Income Access has exposed me to countless affiliate sites, with topics ranging from poker to bingo and everything in between. I noticed that the only affiliate sites that seemed targeted to women were pink bingo review sites. Now there is nothing wrong with this, I like a good dose of pink from time to time, but I felt there was missing a segment to carter to women who might not be into the whole pink thing. For example, a quick search of "online poker rooms for women" does not yield many relevant results. Of course, women can play on any gaming site they want, but sometimes certain sites are more attractive than others due to the overall style, website design, other members, etc.

As a marketing professional, as well as a fellow female, I think there is definitely a gap that needs to be filled!

My site is not specificly targeting a gender but if I had to say which gender my sites target it would be men. Most of the images contain hot women.

I have one article about slots that are targeted on women. The rest doesn't specificly target a gender so I choose for the 3rd option.

I'm in sports betting myself. If I were in casino business I'd target stay at home moms, as I think there are quite a few in the US that want a second income. Actually first income.

While walking into a casino like you own the place really is a man's world, playing in secrecy online definitely appeals to women.

We were just asking this question in our office last week, wondering if lottery tickets appeal more to women than men - but ultimately we are promoting our campaign without taking this into account.

When you look for places to play, is that what you search for? "gambling term + for women"?
I know I don't, which is probably why there were not many relevant results when you searched.

I've never seen a poker room that says "men only". Poker is really the only thing I play online.

So IMO it is irrelevant whether you specifically target women or not. I just don't really see how it can be done without either totally offending every woman out there, or turning away the traffic that comes from the male population.

There are more women than men playing slots for real money, which to me says that targeting women specifically is a waste of time.
