Default UK operator KYC inconsistency — anyone else tracking document refresh patterns?

Following on from earlier threads about UK regulatory shifts — I've been tracking KYC document refresh patterns across several UKGC-licensed operators and the inconsistency is striking.

Same player, same documents, different operators. Three patterns I'm seeing:

    1. Proactive refresh (best practice): operator requests updated docs at predictable intervals — usually 12months for utility bills, never for passport unless expiry. Player can schedule the update.

    2. Reactive refresh (most common): triggered on first withdrawal over a threshold, OR when affordability check fires. Player gets blindsided mid-cashout — 3-5 day delay common.

    3. Compounding refresh (worst): operator requests docs in stages — passport approved Monday, then asks for bank statement Wednesday, then proof of address Friday. Each round restarts the clock.

The pattern doesn't seem to correlate with operator size or licence tier. Some Tier 1 operator handle this terribly; some smaller ones run automated systems that clear refresh in under 10 minutes.

Curious if anyone here has data on whether the Compounding pattern correlates with operators that have recent regulatory action against them. My hunch is yes (looks like risk-aversion overcorrection) but I don't have a big enough sample.

    Cheers

Yes, I see the same pattern. My guess is also that compounding refresh often comes from overcorrected compliance after pressure or internal risk reviews. But it would need a bigger sample, because sometimes it’s just poor KYC workflow design, not necessarily recent regulatory action.
