Negative SEO Via Image Spam on Hacked sites

It's been going on a while, but is it actually affecting anyone? pretty much all gambling sites i have seen have been hit on a massive scale, right now its RBA builders site hosting hundreds of thousands of images, it seems to change every couple of months once the hacked site goes offline or cleaned up, usually images are tagged with an anchor text ... anyone else seen this?

Yeh pretty much all my sites have those sorts of backlinks, pain in the ass.

I blocked some through httaccess placing my logo their instead. There is a thread here on the topic that explain how.

Thats what I thought, too... How lame is it if a webmaster has to check all the time whether "bad links" are pointed to ones site?! ...

Yes I get a few of these I am often disavowing links.

I know penguin devalues such links, but other algos "From what i have read count it negatively" eg.. payday loan algo, which wouldn't affect a normal niche site but sites like ours, casino, viagra, payday etc it would?

That's a great point wonderpunter. Google definitely doesn't like affiliates and as such, it may be lumping us all together with those types of spam sites (lets face it, a lot of aff sites are spammy as hell). I will continue to disavow these types of links just in case. And all those annoying "search engine" links for search sites I've never heard of which seem to have zero marketshare.

They don't know because they can't be classed in the relm of "webmaster". EG - the number of WP users who can't write a single line of code, would be staggering. It's why the "hacker" has been able to gain access to WP sites, because the majority of users are not webmaster savvy.

The story behind the disavow tool is simple,google cant recognize spam...and need your help to solve a self made problem...

I was about to recommend disavowfiles.com, as it's a site I discovered earlier this year where you can upload your disavow file to. It combines your file with other uploaded files and lets you see if other webmasters have disavowed the sites you have disavowed. I think of it as another way to confirm/deny links are "bad".

However, I just went to the URL and it is offline. I probably used it ~45 days ago give or take a couple weeks. I hope it's only down temporarily... it was a neat tool.

I'll agree with that! I've never used WP, prefer to write all my own code. I am surprised sometimes that some sites still even exist but then again many only know how to buy links and pay someone else to do spammy black hat seo which is slowly Killing the market!

Oh well, to be a good online marketer in my opinion you dont need to be an expert coder... sure it helps if you know the basics but in general its not a problem in my opinion...

For months now someone has been presumably running a bot that creates spammy machine generated pages that all link to many different gambling affiliate sites using images. From what I recall the links point at images that are being hotlinked from the target site, not webpages (i.e. the image links to itself and there is no anchor text). You can easily block the images from being loaded on the spam pages from being served by your server, but that doesn't prevent the links from being created and pointed at your domain. I'm not convinced of whether it is an attack or just some amateur running a useless bot they created. Nevertheless I just keep playing whack a mole and disavowing the domains (thanks a lot google...)

Here is a example, typically the page is used as an anchor.. the scale is massive
