Link building - dofollow or nofollow?

In link building with off page seo , is it best to use dofollow links or nofollow links? And why?

If you want the links to have any worth you need to use dofollow. When you nofollow a link it tells robots to not 'count' those links, i.e. they will probably not be included while assessing the domain authority. However, nowadays people believe that nofollow links actually do pass some juice, it's just smaller than dofollow links. What is more, nofollow is not a command, just a suggestion which doesn't have to be followed by Google.

A healthy link profile will have a good mix of both, probably more dofollows than nofollow but you still need some thrown into the mix. I'm sure if you read around a bit there might be somewhere recommending a good percentage mix to aim for.

I would agree with racing jim having the balance between dofollow and nofollow is key if you created 100% nofollow link's off page i'm sure you would get some link juice from it, but very low value in the long term

Both dofollow and nofollow links to your site should be balance. It is true that dofollow links weigh more than nofollow links but nofollow links are beneficial too. It doesn't make sense that there are nofollow links when we can still benefit from it, right? So, at some point, nofollow links gives benefit even if it is just a small amount.

A good mix of both is most likely the best. However a no-follow link can be much more powerful than 1000 do-follow links in some cases.

Dofollow links are more important then the nofollow but it don't not mean that you ignore the nofollow links. Nofollow links are also important because nofollow links are also counted as backlinks and Google gives some points to these links also. The best proof is Google webmaster tool where you can see it is highlighting many nofollow backlinks to your website.

I think it depends on the link source but as usual there is no gerenal yes or no answer to this question. It´s funny because I have just watched a video from matt cutts about this topic. no follow is good when you would like to receive traffic from a specific page but you don´t want that the link will be counted for your seo rankings for any reason. These times I think that links are still very important for seo but not the most important factor.

It does not matter if follow or nofollow. I am 99.99% sure Google does not have some interval of ratio follow/nofollow. They have MUCH more gentle ways how to measure good backlinking profile.

Google likes social network traffic (traffic, not links) as signal, and it is true it is nofollow and usually even noncrawleable for bots, but it does not mean that he takes nofollow links as social network links and then social network links as social network traffic. It is wishful thinking.

Have a content that will people share or be so good with Twitter bombing and make the bombardment of people who really are interested in the content and then you can forget about dofollow/nofollow ratio.

I think the obsession of those ratios and neverending threads about few SEO topics made from otherwise rational people salivating autistic creatures searching for some allegedly important formula. It is really dangerous idea to think about things like dofollow/nofollow ratio. Mind becomes obsessed with this nonsense and does not see the bigger picture.

It is MUCH more important what the visitor from a link does, then what kind of link it is. This is especially valid for low and mid trustworthy links. And let's be honest - not many from us have yahoo homepage links...

I also think that there is no specific ratio. This would not make sense at all. Ok that´s not a reason but no there is no way that this could be right. I can agree that it´s more important what the visitor does. As long as the link is a natural and good link it´s not a problem. You also have to think if you want to pass page rank or not.
