Public members signature links - Spamming

I am not sure if it is just me, but have noticed an increase in public members making posts in threads just to get there signature link showing.

I think it would be a good idea for GPWA to have in place a restriction that until your site is an approved portal, no signature links containing websites will be allowed.

I don't think its alot of effort to apply for private membership and as long as you are being an ethical webmaster then you shouldn't have any issues getting approved.

What are your thoughts?

Well we have always felt that was too strict of a policy since that would immediately restrict signature links to private members only, and then only those that have approved portals.

Our policy is really only as strict as we have felt the need to keep it in order to weed out the spammers as best as we can and allow the greatest freedom in posting and the small gain in benefit of a link.

If people are here contributing to any of the discussions, whether they are private members or public members here for their first visit, if they help keep discussions going and add different points of view it adds benefit to the community...so the least the community can do is allow the link.
