Default Fetch as Google: Temporarily Unreachable. Webmaster Tools Error

I've just gone into Google Webmaster Tools (Search Console) to fetch the new content I've just posted and when I put the URL into Fetch as Google I'm getting an error stating: "Temporarily Unreachable".

I've then tried other URL's and they're getting the same error. The site still appears in searches and I've not made any notable changes recently. I'm also getting an error when I try to check my robots.txt:

    robots.txt fetch failed
You have a robots.txt file that we are currently unable to fetch. In such cases we stop crawling your site until we get hold of a robots.txt, or fall back to the last known good robots.txt file.

I've tried this on both my sites and getting the same errors... Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any suggestions?

    Any help appreciated!

Seems to be working again for me now after a few nervous hours thinking something had gone horribly wrong with my sites!

Yesterday was a disaster - i was on to my webmaster asking him wtf he had done with the site -- but today we are back to normal. Now i have to be nice for a few days - it's going to be hard!

Probably hijack every thread you can find with some garbled message and hope for the best.

Routing problems have been popping up all over the world on occasion for the past few weeks/months/years/millenia.

It is due in part to routers, servers and other isp's experiencing DDOS attacks, as well as routers and servers in the route being compromised or taken down to get rid of compromises or general upgrades etc.

One of my server monitors, in order to monitor it can reach the gateway/internet does a check at Google. It is extremely annoying to get woke up in the middle of the few hours of sleep I am getting with a server warning only to find out after the fact it is Google unreachable instead of my sites.

Any time I notice in WMT that it had trouble reaching the robots file or other pages I know exist I usually just go ahead and resubmit.

Yes, the "Fetch as Google" is back to normal now.
