Default Gambling industry in U.S. hopes having a casino mogul in White House will pay off

Article from Salon regarding the fact that Donald Trump will be the first U.S. president to have ever owned a casino, which has the gambling industry wondering how he will handle three major issues: internet gambling, sports betting and daily fantasy sports.

Steve Norton, an Indiana casino consultant who worked with Trump in the 1980s, predicted he will ultimately oppose nationwide approval of internet gambling, due in part to Adelson’s opposition, but said he does not think Trump would move to strip it from states that already offer it.

“Sports betting, on the other hand is a multibillion-dollar industry, mostly illegal,” Norton said. “I believe the positives of oversight, taxing and ensuring fair odds outweigh any negatives, and hopefully Mr. Trump will support individual states rights, and help overturn” a federal ban.

Norton predicted daily fantasy sports will be “a non-issue” for Trump, who will leave it to states to regulate or not.

I never thought of that, but you might be on to something there. Like him or not he does seem to know how to make money and with this new infrastructure bill he wants to pass (Dems are with hime on this one issue) they will have to come up with the $$.

"This [legalized online gambling] has to happen because many other countries are doing it and like usual the U.S. is just missing out.” (2011)

I doubt we will see any changes yet again for the entire US Market opening up, it may continue at a snails pace state by state, but who knows right now anything is possible!

One of the few public newspaper endorsements trump go was from a certain Las Vegas publication owned by a Mr. Sheldon Adelson. If you will recall, SA is a huge Republican donor and donated to Mr. Trump's campaign, as well as the public endorsement. This often requires some political favor in the future.

Sheldon Adelson is the main person pushing RAWA to congress. RAWA is a bill that will more or less nullify all state actions and make online poker/gambling illegal on a federal level. Which makes sense, as it protects his brick and mortar casino business *eye roll*

I would definitely suggest that this is a year of "lost assumptions." Normally when you want to know who will win the presidency, for instance, you look at what the online gambling community is saying because they tend to have it right even when the rest of the world has it wrong. Lo and behold, we all saw what happened with that, as well as what most people outside of online gambling assumed was impossible and was going to happen. Surprise surprise. But surprises don't take a holiday, and life is often full of ironies.

Same goes now. And one of the most applicable terms to describe the latest developments may also be "counterintuitive." All politics aside, I would contend that the Trump win is actually better for online gambling than what so many people were expecting and assuming, even desiring. When you really follow the news closely, I'm really inclined to believe that is so.

    Some points on the matter:

    * Trump would never bow down to Adelson or anyone else. The idea that he is now beholden to Adelson just doesn't fly as well. See this for instance: BILLIONAIRE G.O.P. DONOR SNUBS TRUMP WITH TINY $5 MILLION DONATION

    * And if you still have any notion that Trump is someone who would bow down to anyone, just watch this 60 Minutes interview to get a clearer sense of things: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/60-min.../?tag=facebook. It was great and well worth watching.

So what's going on with the latest rumblings about RAWA or "neo-quasi-RAWA"? Exactly that - nothing but the latest rumblings. They "have" to do that, some of them that is, merely as going through motions to pay their "debt" to Adelson when it's really only that - going through motions that are all but certain to have no substance or chance whatsoever, and they know it. What RAWA or anything like it represents is simply unacceptable and unpalatable to too many on the red side, and they know it, and contrary to any past assumptions to the contrary. Read this for instance:

What A Donald Trump Presidency Means For Online Gambling

Take particular note of what is well described as a “firewall” in Congress against anything RAWA-ish.

    And review this:

President-Elect Donald Trump And Online Poker: There Are Grounds For Optimism

And for optimism about sports betting read this:

    http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news...-united-states

Wasn't the Democrat Harry Reid an even bigger enemy of online gambling than people have sometimes seen some or assumed most Republicans to be, by the way?

So the old assumptions are simply that - old. Defunct, obsolete. Trump is pro states rights, pro business, pro progress, pro online gambling, pro sports betting, anti-regulation, and would not bow down to anyone. Many in Congress on the red side will also not tolerate or accept any kind of prohibitionist agenda, too many.

Now in case anyone has not been following closely, PA almost took the plunge just within the past month or two, and they are one step away from doing it for early 2017. It appears all but inevitable after the PA Senate gets over its hang ups. The PA House, however, has been gung ho and has practically almost rioted to get it going.

California appears all but certainly inevitable as well, and that is the big whale. Once California gets its act together, all bets are off. It's game over. Any other state with any positive leaning would find it much easier and more politically feasible to emerge from under the covers and proceed.

So we don't even need any kind of national scale upheaval in favor of regulation, though as we have seen such surprises can occur. Even at the state by state level, things are looking optimistic. The latest prohibitionist rumblings mainly for the benefit one person are nothing but virtually predictable gestures that we can be all but certain are doomed to fizzle out and be extinguished just as resolutely as they fizzled out before.

Trump will do what he thinks is best for the economy. If he thinks that the online gambling industry would be good for the economy, then I'm sure that he will act in favor of it.
