Default UK license to be required by all casinos dealing to UK consumers

This was brought up 18 months ago, and it's going into law this year.

    http://www.official-documents.gov.uk.../8497/8497.pdf

The Government believes that the current system is flawed and can no longer adequately ensure the continued protections for British consumers the Act envisaged in a changing European and International landscape. The Government therefore believes that it is essential, now more than ever, for the protections envisaged in the Gambling Act 2005 to be afforded to all British consumers, regardless with whom they choose to gamble.
The main change will be a requirement for all operators selling into the British market being required to hold a Gambling Commission licence and therefore subject to the provisions of the Act
I don't know why they're bothering, or have wasted time discussing it and parliamentary time to implement it. All current jurisdictions - Malta, Alderney etc - will be left alone to carry on as before, ie. they'll get an automatic license. The only affected ones will be clip joints in Costa Rica, Curacao etc. So Virtual might have a problem. BFD.

I don't think that the other EEA countries get automatic licensing, ie. Malta, Alderney, etc. It's the gambling companies themselves that will need a UK Gambling Commission license to advertise in the UK from now on. Being registered in Malta, etc, isn't going to cut a way past the UK license. It's the only way the UK Govt can make some money from online gamblng companies.

Their initial idea was ok(ish) but as they rightly state, it was flawed, as all the other EU countries didn't play ball with an idea that had the potential of working. However, having said that, the tax havens were always going to win in the end.

No, not the countries, but the licensees get a "provisional" license without doing anything. So anyone in Malta, or Artigua and Barbuda () gets an automatic license. I'm assuming that a "full" license will happen in the fullness of time, with equally zero effort. But I've only skimmed the document, and mindful that the UKGC makes the Malta LGA look respectable. So I'm assuming it's just cosmetic BS.
