Compressing Images Via Yahoo Smush It Plugin

My sites have been slow, the speed is about 3.7 seconds according to GTMETRIX and the reason is because I have very big images and I have not specified the dimensions. It suggested Yahoo Smush it, has anyone used this and have feedback. How do I specify dimensions, label the file Keyword-Dimension-468-60.jpg?



Also I installed it and smushed a few images but I keep getting a 500 internal server error. Go daddy said they will run error logs, but I have no idea what they are and what to do with them.

Does anyone have any thoughts, feedback, suggestions?

I've not heard of Smush It, but I occasionally use jpeg-optimizer.com which seems to work very well. That'll reduce the file size of your images and can also change the dimensions.

Smush It is great but images aren't the source of the problem. What you'd benefit from are CSS sprites, a CDN, and a better server. In my quick test your server lagged for 1.36 seconds:

Thank you guys, I don't understand why I am getting an internal server error. Dan, when you say better server do you mean a different hosting plan from godaddy altogether, or upgrade to a VPS? I found a plugin to help CSS sprites https://wordpress.org/plugins/css-thumbnail-sprites/

So basically what I need to do is combine all my images into one image to reduce the number of requests it takes?

Cloudfare is saying that I have an s s l and that their free version does not support it, it is asking if I want to bypass, does anyone have any suggestions?

I have SSL on the server (for cPanel, WHM and the email server) but not on the specific domain of the site. Cloudflare still mentioned I have SSL and I bypassed it.

I think you're in the same situation, I don't see https:// on your site and that means the site itself doesn't have SSL. And you're not accepting payments on any section of the site which would be protected by SSL, are you?

If no pages on your site have the https:// prefix then you can safely bypass Cloudflare's warning without creating any conflicts.

I don't accept payments, I didn't think I had a ssl at all. That is what caught me off guard. I just did it to american poker directory. I bypassed the servers and changed my DNS. It said something about white-listing their IP's, which I have no ideal what they are talking about. Does anyone know if I have to plug my sub-domain in as a seperate website?

I found this cool free tool - https://tinypng.com/

Just put your image and they will cut it to the minimal png size. The output is actually amazing looking and very quick. I use this in addition to smushing.

Sub domains are a bit tricky to handle on Cloudflare, I'd suggest reading the FAQ and then contacting support. I'll just give you a hint sub domains are considered separare sites...I think.

I got it working on most sub domains. You need to point it at the ip, like you do for SMTP.url.com ext... It takes a few hours for DNS to change.
