I watched a TV program on him in the UK a while ago. It was pretty extraordinary what he achieved! I think it cost red bull something like $10 million right? When they had budgeted like 1 or 2 million?
Was it also 3 hours to get up into position but 3 1/2 minutes to get down to the ground? What must he of been thinking that whole time?! I know what I would be thinking, but not quite sure this is the right forum to say it LOL!!

The NASA space shuttle re-entry speed is approximately 17500 mph (28163km/h) that is why it gets so hot on re-entry. Baumgartner started with a re-entry speed of zero and got to about 1357.64 km/h (843.6 mph). He was never as high as the space shuttle either.

I also imagine he didn't make the windows rattle, homes shake and set off car alarms with the sonic boom felt all over central Florida when the shuttle would land. (kinda miss that)

I wish I was like that. I can honestly say that apart from driving, it is very rare that I would put myself in a situation where there is a high chance I will die. I'm a bit of a chicken like that.

For example I love the feeling of free falling, but only if it's on one of those amusement park rides where I know I can't die. I'd never sky dive.
