Default Seperate IPs for SEO - Myth or Reality?

If you own 5 websites and have them hosted on the same VPS is it necessary to have them all on their own IP address if you plan on inter-linking the sites for SEO? Or is it just a myth?

The system admin guy at my hosting company says I don't need them and says it's a myth but I'm wondering if he's just saying that because they have a scarcity of Ip's left and don't want to give them all out unless absolutely necessary.

    Good question!

They will need to be on their own unique IP addresses but only to a certain extent.

You may of heard of a Unique C Class IP before? An IP Address is made up of 4 parts - aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

The third part, so the "ccc" is the most important and this is the C Class part of the IP.

For what you are planning to do - it would be fair to say that you will need each site to be on its own unique C Class block.

    I hope this helps.

I received a Google penalty many, many years ago for excessive cross-linking between sites on the same host. Took a year or so to get those sites back up the rankings. Now, as I mentioned, this was quite some years ago now (eight years maybe) but I've never, ever done it since.

If your sites are clean, if you dont interlinking him, and if you dont make any tests (like agrressive linl building, and stuff) you will not need separate IP for each.

I have more than 100 websites. All of them have different IP's. It is very important parameter if you deal with advertising issues.
