Bitcoin poker site Betcoin Poker closes

Betcoin.ag, one of the first online casinos to deal exclusively in cyber currency, closed its poker room on Christmas day. The online casino and sportsbooks are still active.

In the announcement, Betcoin stated that it will continue to provide the "same great service, including their VIP program, Instant deposits and withdrawals, with casino and live casino gaming on offer."

According to a few reports, Betcoin did not have a best reputation. From PokerNewsDaily.com:

Betcoin’s official reason [for closing the poker room] is that it has been acquired by another company/site. We don’t know who purchased Betcoin, nor do we even know who owned it in the first place. It is one of the most mysterious poker sites on the internet.

Betcoin Poker might not really be missed, either. Players have had many problems with the site, stemming from allegedly shady activities by management. One incident that got publicity in the poker community was when Betcoin busted a collusion ring, but rather than banning the cheaters and giving funds back to the victims, Betcoin only gave some of the money back, using the rest to fund a freeroll. The cheaters were also allowed to keep playing on the site “under a strict watchful eye” and were permitted to keep some of the money.

Betcoin did not have a good reputation online, despite being a cryptocurrency option. The brand had several complaints involving shady behavior, including a rake increase that was unannounced, paying individuals to post positive remarks on BTCTalk, not showing concern for player security and game integrity, among other problems.

Players took to forums to discuss the closure, with many wondering if they would be reimbursed for their contribution to the Bad Beat Jackpot, that may or may not have existed. Allegations have also been made against the brand in regard to bots being used to push the traffic numbers at the cash gaming tables.

Good riddance! Our article on this topic was quite negative. Why? Because the management at this place was terrible. Insofar as their shadiness goes, who could forget the time that they tried to steal 120k USD jackpot from a player that was rightfully earned?

Its a valid question whether the "bad beat jackpot" was legitimate. After all we've documented that their Betsoft slots jackpots weren't. At the time that jackpot that Betcoin and Betsoft refused to pay was worth more than 500 BTC.
