Default Michigan Legal Sports Betting, Online Poker, and Casino Passed!

The state of MI is just a governers signature away from legalizing sports betting, online poker, and mobile casino games. Gov Whitmer was an active oarticipant in the negotiations surrounding the specifics of the bill, so I’d call this a done deal. Here is what to expect out of the market:

Sports betting has had all the momentum lately, but adding another state with casino and poker games is very exciting, as it appears to be an affiliate friendly market (similar to other states you will have to register as a vendor).

For those counting this now makes 20 states that have legalized some form of sports betting since the fall of PASPA.

A nice welcome end of the year surprise!

How much does it typically cost to apply as a vendor? Would I need to apply as a vendor in all 20 states?

So far we have seen 0-2500 in terms of vendor registration cost, not every state requires it either so far - but I suspect most will.

Also there is not 20 states that will have affiliate friendly markets.

Right now we have NJ, PA, WV, and IN. Soon we will be able to add CO and MI and TN to it. IA will become affiliate friendly 18 months after they went live this last fall, and IL will become affiliate friendly 18 months after they go live, which hasn't happened yet and is still a few months away.

After that, I'm not sure how many affiliate friendly state markets will open up - RI, DE, OR are all state run lottery/monopoly setups with no competition, so no need for affiliates. A few east coast states like Massachusetts are possible, Ohio could happen, New York could and will likely eventually happen, and the holy grail of FL, CA, and TX are a long ways off - with many other states like WI and MN having complex tribal issues that will require constitutional ammendments.

In your opinion, for someone like me, who is located outside of the US and is advertising unregulated bookmakers (Intertops, Bovada etc etc) - would you continue advertising those bookmakers or would you go into the regulated market in NJ, PA etc?
