Post Is KW density still a factor for ranking?

    Hi All,

According to my observations, KW density is still a factor on the serps.

I have observed most of the highly-ranked sites and saw that they have an average density of 1.5-2% for the targeted KWs.

Of course, there are other factors but what do you think of this?

    Thanks in advance

I am not 100% sure about that. KE density is a thing that is getting increasing difficult to validate. I rather think that LSI keywords or what is known as entity keyword is the new KE density

I see. Thanks a lot. Can you please explain "entity keyword"?

    Thanks in advance.

Latest after the last semi-massive Google update some days ago it's clear, that KW density is more and more only a harm factor than a boosting one.

Google looks at your website at all. KW density of one article may be fine, but if you do not have that smooth KW density overall on your domain, than it's worthless.

More important than KW density is WDF and IDF ("within-document frequency" and "inverse document frequency").

A lot of work and patience, but it works very well and small sites can beat with that from time to time the big rulers, who are in some cases only big because of hundreds of employees and so called content writer, who can produce more in some hours naturally than one person, big because of dozens of paid links, backlink exchanges with each other and other things you can buy for money.

I've read somewhere that 3% is acceptable. I am customizing my articles to not exceed this length. I think 1%-2% is optimal, but hard to achieve.

The best thing you should do is calculate the TOP 10 SERPs and evaluate the article length you need to make and average keyword density that Google likes for the particular keyword your after.

Not doing KW density anymore as a main factor. Instead concentrating on quality content and easy-to-read content. Of course keywords itself are important in Headings and content so that Google knows what the content is about.

Keyword density is not anywhere near as important as the quality of your content.

This link gives you a rough idea about it:

This is great advice. Work on the basis of data and what actually works, rather than outdated assumptions of what Google likes.

I've gone the same way. My main site is targeting UK, and when I look at my competitors, the target keyword often exists only in the H1 and meta title.

It is a way to go but I look at it another way. Yes the KW density may be correct but it is the tons of authority links that put it on top especially for competitive KW. I see a lot of sites that just have dribble but rank for terms I would love to be top on and their pages have no text at all only boxed ad content.

I agree with this, I think in order to get ranked you also would need to create a flow of articles for at least a few weeks at a time before expecting any results before google would start crawling and ranking, if at all.

2% density is prob way too much.. maybe on those serps that you have looked other factors make it go to top. But that stuffing just doesnt work, and it makes it looks so ridicolous fot users. So maybe those are top serps despite that 2%density

Any time a keyword is repeated more times then seems natural when speaking about any product, service game etc, then the density is too high.

Of course it still is, but it's not 2010 so we're not really going like repeating the focus keyword 20 times in order to rank for it, as no one targets only one keyword per article. LSIs play a major role nowadays.

Not to mention the Medic update in August - I think a lot of sites relying on KW density got hit by this one.

I have articles with just one keyword ranking high, i dont think there is a density as long as it looks natural.. it could mean the keyword is mentioned many times o few.. you need to understand the difference between natural and stuffing

When people talk about keyword percentage, it makes a difference when you're focusing on 1 keyword or on a keyprhase of 4 keywords. so, what i mean is that just mentioning something like focusing on a keyword percentage of 1, 2 or 3% without mentioning for how many keywords in the main keyprhase is not providing any useful information.

That said, i personally think that the whole keyword/keyphrase percentage kind of approach is outdated. just write natural content. if you're going to write about a certain subject, you will have more than enough density in their already with a natural approach.
