Default What's the usual lifetime of your players?

    Hey,

There are a lot of people here who have been doing this for many years and I was wondering whether anyone ever looking into what is the average lifetime of a player. Do you have players that keep bringing revenue for several years?

It's hard to see on some software (IA is pretty good for this) but looking at one program quickly we have a good handful of active accounts this month that signed up in 2013, so that's 8 years.

It does decay though. No idea of the average account lifespan but I'd say half life is maybe about a year? Mainly eye balling this figure so don't take that as anything other than a rough stab in the dark though.

Funny enough, I did some basic analysis on this the other day on one of my brands.

Pretty crude analysis so undoubtedly you could pick holes in it, however I looked at players signed up in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and classed them as active if they have transacted at all in 2021 for the year to date.

    Percentage of players still active:

    2009: 12.50%
    2010: 12.70%
    2011: 11.73%
    2012: 17.49%

The FTD numbers in 2009 and 2010 were pretty small but interesting that they're still fairly consistent in terms of those still active. Players are sportsbook and UK facing for the vast majority.

Off the top of my head, not sure if the info would be useful or how you could use it....

But might be worth understanding whether those in the game for around 10 years are still there because they're up overall or down (and indicating maybe they're more the hooked gambling type or operating on a - perhaps - more professional/knowledgeable/profitable level).

Bearing in mind that (probably) the majority who've held an account for that long will have multiple other accounts....so let's say they're down a few grand at Bet365, they could have equally or greater positive balances at BF, WH, BV, Corals etc

PS Paul I'm sure this won't have bypassed you, but the demographics will likely play a fair part in this.....you (I think) have a very particular target Customer base who may act very differently over time to your average UK punter.

Yeah, that's correct. My players are in many ways not like players from UK / EU so in most cases whatever numbers others will have - they are not entirely applicable to whatever I have. But I was mostly just curious to know if this is a metric people generally follow.

Numerous players have been active with us for 5-10 years and generate revenue, but poker cannot be compared with casino. Professional poker players who are consistently making profit continue to play, of course.

Average lifetime is variable by traffic source, some of our guide sites send accounts with lifespans of years, accounts from offer sites can have a lifespan of 3-6 months.

We have plenty of accounts still active from 2015-16 when I started getting traffic.

This is why I will not work with any new program that has a lifespan cut off for RS. When Entain decided to introduce a 3 year lifespan we reduced their exposure on our guide sites where we know the lifespan can be high but kept them on the offers sites for that reason.

Average is an useless number because the mode is 1 day (most people by far play the day they deposit and never more), so just that would make average an useless number.
They key for yield are players who are NOT the average players (by deposits, stakes and by longevity) = the real fked up gamblers.
This is maybe 37th debate on the same topic here.

I've got a number of players who are still with me from around 2010. Some of those players are no longer part of my player base. They used to make much more money back in the day, because the competition wasn't as strong as it currently is.

Variables play a huge part when analysing this and assessing responses in this thread. A major consideration in this is the market. In a regulated market such as the UK, it is incredibly simple to hop from one of the thousands of bookmakers or casinos to the other. By no means a suggestion to target them, but in markets like the offshore US or Russia, a player’s options are both more limited and they tend to have to go through hoops to make a first deposit anyway, their loyalty may well be greater. Judging by your signature, Canada vs Nigeria would be a very interesting comparison. Another key variable is the type of traffic you send. If you push free spins, no deposit bonuses and bonuses generally as dominant keywords, you should expect as a rule of thumb for those players to be as loyal as Judas.

This has very little if anything to do with the question or discussion.

Having free games on your own portal, will not increase game play at an operator once a player signs up, and in fact once you get that player you don't want them playing games on your portal you want them logging in to the operator to play.

While free games on your portal may be used to draw traffic or as a conversion tool, the topic of this thread is about player lifetime averages.

When discussing the averages of the long term player that stays active for much longer periods, I think it would be interesting to see if there are opinions on certain terms or type of games to target that increase that particular metric.

I have a site with reviews of different brands and these companies don't provide that detailed statistics. But I would follow this discussion thread to see other opinions. Please share your stats if you have them

Quite nice numbers! For a newly starting affiliate this is encouraging.

Certainly would be interesting data to look at and see what strategies could be developed to maintain the players.
