    Default Meta tags for news

I stumbled across an interesting discussion syndication-source and original-source meta tags, along with the canonical attribute and how the interact with Google. I'm not sure how many of you are using this for the articles you publish, but it looks like it could be useful. Does anyone use these? And have they provided a boost in your SERPs?

Maybe I am being short sighted as I am incredibly tired at this moment , but this seems like a useless introduction by Google and I doubt it will have any real impact on anything.

If I submit a press release through our corporate site and want Google to know that the content originated there what good would a original-source meta tag be?

If someone wants to republish the news they will grab the content and not look at the meta tags. Even if they did know about this tag then they will be aware of its purpose and would rather appear in Google news themselves, therefore ignoring it on purpose or even adding it to reference there own site.

The best way to get the original source search engine benefits always has been and always will be including a link or reference within the content before it is released.
