Bit of a noob question, but am a bit on the fence with this one so wanted to get some input that might push me in one direction or another.

Basically, I have a new betting site that I've been working on (very) slowly and I'm trying to decide what to do with the country targetting for the home page.

The domain is an EM on a non-ccTLD [shameless-plug]http://www.bettingsites.co/[/shameless-plug] and the way I see it there are three options that make sense:

1. Run it as a generic site with no country target, and then have individual pages/sections for various countries (eg: UK, Canada, USA etc..).

2. Have the home page and primary "money" content targeted towards the UK (eg: free bets pages) - ie: all in GBP and the offers that are available to the UK. Then have pages, sections, subfolders or even sub-domains for other countries

3. Geotarget the content based on the users country.

On first glance most people would probably say that geotargetting makes the most sense, right? Except that in doing so may make it a bit harder to rank as well in the UK for the primary terms, which is a big deal considering that the UK accounts for over 50% of the EM's search traffic. Plus the more generic the content, the harder it is to convert.

Number 2 is what I'm currently leaning towards as it would enable me to target the UK in GWT and use UK language and relevant terms (eg: UK betting sites) to help with the rankings in google uk, and then maybe use subfolders (etc..) each targeted to various other countries (eg: USA, Canada, Australia) etc..

Anyone have any input they care to share. Or any bright ideas that I'm missing?
