Default Are "some casino review" queries that good?

Hello everyone! According to ahrefs, big casino affiliate sites are getting most of their traffic for queries like "xyz casino", "xyz casino review" or "xyz review".

I would consider myself a beginner gambling affiliate, though some "xyz casino review" queries on my websites are very close to the first serp page.

I am wondering, is it as simple as that. You just get ranked your casino reviews, and, since these queries should be highly commercial, plus, there are a lot of traffic for such queries, you get a lot of money. Am I missing something (except for the fact that such queries are highly competitive)?

They are good, especially when some decent new casino gets launched. However, to get traffic to your casino review pages you must rank in the top 3. It's also very dependent on the popularity of the casino itself because most of them get forgotten after a month or two, which means you can rank at #5 for example, and never have even one visitor. Well, even at #4,3,2,1 if no one is interested in the site you promote or most already are playing there.

These are generally good, but as GM mentioned you would need to be in at least top 3 to get good traffic. You would need to do some research in regards to the brands you promote. Scoring with such KWs for large and well-known brands is nearly impossible especially with a new website.
I can recommend doing to following:

    - Find some newer and less known brands that are gaining popularity in your target region
    - Check search volumes for those brands
    - Pick the ones with decent search volume and see what's the competition for the KWs you are looking to target
    - Work on the ones where it is realistic to compete for top positions

You will likely find a couple of brands that would satisfy all the above points and you can start with focusing on them.

Guys ... you always should keep search intend in mind. The wast majority of searches like "xyz casino" are searches from people with an account and looking for login. Google is for billions of users the default starting page if they open a browser.

    Are those searching for:
    casino X review
looking to make a decision about joining casino X, or are they looking for casino X research to write their own reviews?

Obviously, ranking well on those terms will likely increase traffic of both types.

In these instances, I always default to long-tail-keywords and adapting my pages to suit that search criteria. Personally, XYZ review or casino is way too generic. It could be anyone or anything (bot) using those KW's. Whereas long-tails avoid that generic BS

But the maximum search volume is always going to be for xyz casino review, right. Often wildly so. Agreed their will be some dross in that, but equally plenty of real searchers too (and that are genuinely looking for a review to support their potential decision).

So given that, my instinct says to tune for the straight review term, then pick up the long(er) tails such as xyz withdrawals review as a consequence (either naturally/organically via the inherent coverage, or with some manipulation).

It would be interesting to gauge the real efficacy of those approaches individually, though I doubt that's info that anyone in the know is going to share!

PS AD All this said, I suspect you're not entirely referring to 'review' terms anyway.

Been doing what I've been doing for 21 years, and it hasn't let me down yet.

If you feel I'm wrong, and your right, that's your prerogative.

Ah, I didn't say (I thought) you were wrong AD. Not a question of right or wrong. It was a step through a thought process......"It would be interesting to gauge the real efficacy of those approaches individually"

Just because it would have worked for you doesn't necessarily mean that an alternative approach wouldn't result in increased returns (of course, discounting the fact it's more difficult to crack the higher level terms).

But for anyone looking to go for the more achievable targets (and there is sense in doing so), of course I'd agree there's little doubt that the way that's worked for you is a sensible one to try and replicate.
