Sorry but I won't be able to sleep tonight, will be laughing too much.
Wonder how the bets / earnings fall out.

at a guess though I'd of thought a fair few would of back united in the match winning market?
Yeah I would have thought that Man Utd to win might be a win for the punters, depends on how many backed the bigger odds on to go through.

The "to qualify" market is a drop in the ocean compared to the match winner market in games like this - though Man Utd were a prohibitively short price which wouldn't have attracted your usual punter at all. Sunderland winning in normal time would've been a far worse result! Overall, I don't think last night's game would have any significant impact on across-the-board affiliates' earnings.

I'd agree with you about the casual punter Voids. There will not have been too many casual punters on Man United to win the match at prices of 1.33. I see very few forum / facebook / twitter posters interested in prices under 1.70 to 1.80 (4/5).
Instead there would have been people chasing the "better prices" (which seems to be code for higher returns) and with a general expectation of goals the 1-0 scoreline at 90 minutes should have been a good earner for bookmaker and affiliates.
Man United -1.5AH was very popular in Asia, and I expect that BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE and OVER 2.5 GOALS were also heavily hit by "punters" looking for an even money bet. All three of those options were losers.
I'l be interested in seeing our Jan 22 returns at various sportsbooks ...
Both of these markets are only really popular in accumulators, so without any other interesting fixtures last night (that I can think of off the top of my head), punters wouldn't be touching them any more than they would a usual fixture, which is small amounts as far as singles go.
Win-Draw-Win markets are still the key, whereas Correct Scores and First Goalscorers are important given the higher prices, especially if you have popular players scoring first. Handicaps would follow that.

Enjoyed reading this discussion, might have to make it a weekly thing especially with the hammering the bookies took a couple of weeks ago.

Profit reports on 22nd.
A small profit at Bet365 (about +1.5% of turnover) and about +2% of turnover at BetVictor.
PinnacleSports a stand out at +23% of turnover on 142 bets. a solid mid-four figure gain.
Not surprising as their Over/under and handicap odds are very competitive.
Looking forward to seeing PaddyPower numbers.
