Default 888 confirms talks with Ladbrokes

888 confirmed over the weekend that it was in talks with Ladbrokes over a possible takeover, according to Reuters. And that confirmation sent 888 shares soaring by as much as 24 percent on Monday.

The last major merger in the online gambling world, of course, occurred in August when bwin and PartyGaming joined forces.

    From Reuters:

The two held talks four years ago but these were aborted because of Ladbrokes' concerns over the threat of possible retrospective legal action in relation to 888's activities in the United States prior to the industry being outlawed in 2006.

Unlike rivals PartyGaming (PRTY.L) and Sportingbet (SBT.L), 888 has yet to strike a deal with U.S. authorities to give it immunity from prosecution. "This may be a barrier to a bid," said Liberum Capital analyst Richard Taylor.

Well, lets all wait and see for the result of their collaboration if it would be as successful as the joining of forces of bwin and partygaming.

888 have knocked Ladbrokes back. Looks like they are holding out for more $

Looks like this deal could collapse as a result.

Thanks for the update. Too bad they could not give any more insight than a 50-50 chance. We will all be watching this one.

A strong merger between two powerful names in the online gambling industry would create another huge wave on the online gambling industry. and did you know that Micro gaming and Virgin Casino are now partners? it seems that this is the new trend when it comes to gambling online!

Well, i think talks wouldn't be possible if there ain't success they're seeing ahead of them. Most collaborations do end up successful as efforts are maximized and resources are doubled.
