    Default Trouble Uploading sql file

    I had to move hosting and had my news section in wordpress. Before closing down the old hosting I downloaded the sql file so I could upload it in the new wordpress site I created in the new hosting account.

    Now for some reason I cannot get it to work. WordPress is installed and working on the new site and I uploaded the sql file using myphpadmin but my old posts will not show up. When using myphpadmin I can see the posts in the database I created in the new hosting account but for whatever reason they will not show up on the web. Like I say though, in the wp-posts table I can see all the posts.

    I have completed this process several times in the past and it has worked but for some reason I cant figure this one out. I guess when you do not do it for a while you lose your touch??

    Can anyone think of a reason why they would not show up. Like I say I can see the posts in myphpadmin in the new database but I just cant get them to show up on my website.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks - Travis

    Did you update the wordpress configuration file? Did you change the domain name? Is it a different install directory (no idea if that plays a role)?

    The databases are different names.... could that be the problem? And if so how do I correct that as the new hosting does not allow me to make the new database the same name as the old database.

    You can actually import the database into a different name without issue, or username and password, but as mentioned above, whatever changes you make be sure to update the wp-config.

    Also, double check the server address, whether it is localhost, an ip or a hostname, this will have to point at the mysql server of the new host.

    Double check the dbuser has rights on the database, not all rights, especially not grant.

    Let me know if you need someone to take a quick look for you.

    Open up wp-config.php, and find the following:

    define( 'DB_NAME', 'name of database' );

    /** MySQL database username */
    define( 'DB_USER', 'database username' );

    /** MySQL database password */
    define( 'DB_PASSWORD', 'database password' );

    'name of database', 'database username' and 'database password' need to be updated.
