Default Best converting landing page strategy?

Hi guys - just wondering what you find is the best landing page strategy?

Would you go for the signup page directly or jsut the general landing pages?

It's been suggested to me by a certain bookie that I send users to the home page rather that the signup page (they say that's bad for user experience), but due to their session cookie policy, i'm slightly sceptical that they're telling me the truth on this.

What have you guys found to be the best type of landing page to send your traffic to? Like I said, i don't believe this lot straight out.

In my opinion, it depends on how much pre-selling you have done on your own site. If your site is detailed and people who click know exactly what they're clicking to - meaning a thorough review of the site you're suggesting or a clear description of the offer or features or reasons they're clicking, then the signup page is probably the best option.

If you merely post a link labeled "Bet365", the visitor probably needs sold a bit more after they've clicked in order to convert.

Think like the visitor - when would you (being your own target market reflective of your ACTUAL traffic) be enticed to enter your details in the sign up form. If you've provided enough information on site, then land to the sign up form. If not, land to a homepage or another page so that the site can do some selling for you to get visitors to the landing page.

cheers shay, those were my thoughts. Considering i have a detailed review of PP done, i thought it was taking the **** a bit that they wanted me to remove the landing page. I wouldn't mind if they didn't only have a browser session cookie.

    Well said Shay,

Personally I always like sending them to the home pages, but one of the reasons I do this is that many programs create such horrible landing pages, often without any links to the home page, or terms page or bonus page thus leaving the visitor with 2 choices. If they are not quite sold they can either sign up or leave, and they can not look around to get their questions answered....(this is not always the case but often)

Over the years I have also had times when specific landing pages would disappear and in some cases instead of the visitor being redirected to the home page (which would make sense) the visitor would be presented with a 404....

Almost all home pages have a very clear link to sign up and they are usually above the fold and very visable to the visitor, so landing on the home page makes it easy for the visitor to sign up when they are ready.

I'm with rick, I always prefer to send players to the home page.

Unless it's for something really specific - so for a dedicated roulette site I would choose a roulette landing page.

A lot of the homepages are entirely too "busy" for my liking. Which - in fairness, the homepage is usually a bunch of everything designed for all audiences (new players, old players, regular players, random surfers).

In fairness, I do A LOT of pre-selling though, so I am inclined to want more focused landing pages if not sending directly to a registration page, as I feel like my visitors know exactly what they are clicking on and are doing so because they've been sold. Thus, a homepage landing may not be the best place for "my" visitors to land.

I guess it depends on the type of person clicking the link too. Personally if I clicked a link and it went to a reg form I would never just sign up - I always navigate back to the site to check everything for myself. But then again I'm paranoid and never believe anything that anyone says.

I sent Paddy Power over 100 sign up's last month just using the homepage as a landing page, so they are probably right. Like baldidiot says, I would click back from the registration page if I landed at it.

Saying that though I might be missing a trick as I don't really pay much attention to landing pages

I am a regular joe mate. I was an online gambler and internet user well before I knew anything about this lark.

Say I was reading a review somewhere and I clicked a banner/link and it took me straight to the registration page the alarm bells would ring. I like the confidence that I am actually on the right site for starters before I start handing all my details out

depends on the offer. if you are offering free play bonus and you send them to the homepage and its not the right offer than yes conversions will not be as high as what the banner or anchor text is promoting.

I would make your homepage gangster and high converting and split test your signups or conversions and than pursue the one that has the best converting ratio.

    hope that helps.

All I use are landing pages but my links to them already say click here to open an account, get your bonus by clicking here, etc. Also, my landing pages are all customized with my logos because I have special bonuses that others do not. I only promote a small group of sportsbooks that I have formed a relationship with.

Finally, I have been told by the affiliate managers that I work with their landing pages convert better than their homepage or website does. From a marketing standpoint that makes sense since the visitor is only presented with two options: sign up or close the page. A landing lag doesn't give them a chance to be sidetracked.

Finally, I don't have many banners on my site. Simply because they don't get clicked. Instead I have CTA's in my links, which people seem to click more than banners.
