Default Report: Industry to grow by 79% by 2014

iGaming Business has released a report that said the online gambling industry will increase by 79 percent by 2014.

The Global Business of Online Casinos said the global online casino market will be worth more than $4.7 billion by 2010, and $7.1 billion by 2014.

    From the GPWA:

The Global Business of Online Casinos is reporting on one of the most established online gambling sector, which has recently become the topic du jour, with the recession leaving many looking for alternative sources of income and international regulators yielding to a freer gambling market. The report clearly demonstrates that by the end of 2010, the online casino market will be worth $4.7bn globally in terms of gross gaming yield. It will rise to $5.8bn by the end of 2012 and to $7.1bn by the end of 2014 in terms of gross gaming yield, which is an increase of nearly 79% from 2009.

Pie in the sky figures plucked out of the air at whimsy in order to write a link-bait article. But I doubt if ANY real analysis was done other than drawing a few upwardly mobile lines on a graph.

Of course, if the author can show thinking behind ideas like :
    - what allowance they made for US continuation / removal of UIGEA
    - or whether they forecast legalisation in the US
    - or will the US economy tank into a double dip recession
    - will middle class Chinese get access to credit cards and online funds
    - or what considerations they've made for European national protectionism

Then I'll stand corrected ... But if that had been done then I'd have expected it to be disucssed within the article.

Overall - a poor effort - with little explanation for the reasoning behind the numbers. And if the details are incorrect then the final numbers are simply an example of trying to pin the tail on the financial donkey.
