Goodness knows there are plenty of them. What is everyone looking for on forums?

For me it is:

*Information in this industry that concerns me as a player and affiliate.

*Getting to know folks across the globe,

*Venting on what pisses me off.

*Sharing on the good things in life.

*Making friends.

There is much to talk about. Sometimes we lose our temper. Sometimes some really great discussions come out. Sometimes people are hurtful to others.

Forums are a strange phenoneum. Sometimes I don't dare to post, sometimes I don't care to post, other times I have something to say dammit. Sometimes I have nothing to say. Sometimes I cringe when I see others posts. Sometimes I say "I wish I never posted that". LOL

Forums are weird.

Hi,

I use them to get info and to give info. It is a great community when you can share and give something back and I have personally learned a lot from Forums such as the GPWA. Also, when I have had a bad month, it is good to come and read that other people have had worse ones!

I don't vent too much, but what I do need is the comfort of knowing other people in the industry on a human level. Also, what I like is sharing marketing ideas both the successes and failures that people don't tend to share.

So sitting in front of the computer alone, isn't so alone after all.

personally... i like being able to seek out useful partners. At this stage - 4 me - its mostly just link exchanges and scoping new affiliate programs but I imagine that other people are to connecting great big business ideas with great people that can do it.

BUT i have seen other forums that trade mostly on drama....

First and foremost I have made some great friends and acquaintances on the many forums I lurk and skulk around.

They are a great source for this as too are they a great place to learn and develop.

Some forums I rarely visit or post but play all the games they put on as it is about the members more than the forum itself.

Others I post when I find an appealing subject. Then there's those that somehow have talked me into moderating for them. Too many I can tell you.

And of course there is my own and if ya can spend too much time on a forum I certainly do.

At least that's what mrspomp and the little chips tell me.

But the problem is there are way too many lurkers. So if we talk about ways to increase traffic, the info is going to hundreds of folks, not the 4 or 5 having the discussion. So 90+% are getting info without sharing their experience and knowledge. As such, I am much more hesitant to post anything I've spent much time learning.

I think others feel the same way - so the posts have gotten out of balance... too many personal, not enough discussion about the business... The conferences are so much more valuable - but unfortunately too much time away for me right now.

One can hardly add anything more to mojo's list. For me forums are sources of knowledge and communication. There is no better way of communication with people across the world without bothering about where they come from, what they believe in etc. etc.

I find this very true matted. Since many of us spend many hours working very hard to make our business work, we are not going to share it easily with lurkers or anyone else. The GPWA is a webmaster forum and we need to share, but only with people who share back. The public forum is not a place for us to share tips and tricks, except on a very basic level. We work much to hard. That is why I like to have fun and share personal things here. For everyone that is serious, I would encourage joining the private forums.
