Has anyone ever demoted a sitelink? I have not and just hesitant to do so.

If you have demoted a sitelink, did it affect search for that page at all? While I really do not want a certain page as a sitelink, I still want it to rank as it does currently in search. Theoretically I guess demoting the sitelink should not affect search rankings but you just never know and I would rather hear others experiences if anyone has done this.
