California online poker legislation hits snag

A proposal to offer state-sanctioned online poker in California took a hit this week when the idea of passing a bill in the closing month of the legislative session was shot down by the state's senate leader.

Accodring to Capitol Weekly, Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said that he needs more time to review aspects of the proposal.

Mark Macarro, the chairman of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, said that his tribe had also conducted a poll of "802 randomly selected Californians" about online poker.

61 percent opposed legalizing online poker in California. This included 44 percent who were “strongly opposed.” Only 36 percent were in favor.
