Godaddy - Glue IP to Hostname?

GD have once again, changed their customer back-end suite. And, the custom hostname functionality has been removed/retired, or so the tech support guy I spoke with claims. It seems odd they'd remove such and important tool of DNS.

GD called it "vanity" but it's custom hostname.

I've search high and low of the new GD back-end, and I can't locate the custom hostname option. So maybe they have canned it.

Just in case it's in a completely different location on the User back-end, does anyone know where it is now?

Without the ability to "glue" IP's to my custom nameservers, I'm scr#wed

Move registrar ? GoDaddy have a history of shoddy business practices, plenty of other better options like internetbs, porkbun etc

Changing registrar's is a consideration, but fixing name servers at current is a critical process that might need done before changing and waiting for propagation.

Yes a record changes can be quick, but changing parent name servers can take time to get in all the router caches around the world.

Agree their not ideal. Their tech support was once pretty decent, but now it seems they employee non-techies, who are inapt at their job, and instead, default to an idiot script.

I could understand moving a handful of domains.

However, with hundreds @ 1 year reg per transfer, the thought of shelling out AU$4K+, doesn't thrill me.

What I was originally looking for, has been changed to something else, now. A tech higher up the food chain emailed me with howto guide, which I've now used.

Problem now though, even though the domain is populated in the Hostname record change area, and you just add EG ns1 and glue to IP, when it displays in that area, only ns1 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and ns2 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed.

The confirmation email doesn't list:

ns1.mydomain.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
ns2.mydomain.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Instead, all I have is notification of:

The registration of ns1 has succeeded
The registration of ns2 has succeeded

Hence, going on that info, it seems instead of the servernames being registered, only ns1 and ns2 have registered, which is useless.

It's not important right now, as site is still under development. BUT the GD system is ambiguous/confusing, and that's a worry.

You should be able to query the name server directly using nslookup at the command prompt.

You can do a quick search and find the syntax to use to verify the records you want to check.

Even if they script pushing the records to a parent server that answers the queries they should show in a few hours.

Be sure right after the original loading of nslookup that you change to the server you are querying.
Example
Server ns2.domain.com (or)
Server 123.456.789

Or you could always use tools like that of dnsstuff

Go to their Free Tools in top nav, and pull a full dns report in a few hours

Oh man... the more domains you have there, the more money you save when you transfer them to a cheaper registrar.

I really got tired of Godaddy's yearly price increases, that's why I moved away from Godaddy gradually in the past years.

I pay a little more for domains, but also have a registrar that sends me emails as a reminder if I have names getting close and I forgot to put funds in the account etc....this is personal emails not the normal automated ones.

A few bucks more for personal service is sometimes worth it, but obviously in many cases it is something you often can not expect from a large registrar.
