Whatever you decide to do, stick with it.

If most of your incoming links are pointing at www then use that one.

Main thing is to stick with one.

Google will see it as a new site as www. is a sub domain. Many people switch to one ot the other after a google penalty but if your established with one stay with it.

Yeah, if you get a google penalty you can change, but if your site has lots of visits, keep it as it is to avoid issues

If you've had a penalty switching to www is not a reliable strategy.... because all sub domains benefit from the root domains SEO profile. And if you then canonicalise the URL or even have a rewrite/redirect rule on your server.... thats telling Google to pass ALL link equity to the appropriate version of your site i.e the www version.

There is no SEO benefit from choosing one or the other if you use the rewrite on your server and use a canonical URL in your HTML head. If you do not use a rewrite or canonical then customers will get an error page if they go to the wrong version of your site.... and often when people backlink they write the URLs themselves.... so they may write www they may not. Again you need the rewrite/redirect rule to tell google to pass link equity through both version of your site URL or you will lose backlnks if people use the wrong version.

Chose 1 version an include a rewrite/redirect and a canonical URL it really doesn't matter which one you decide to use... just stick with it! I doubt you will come across a situation where you have to definitively use one over the other.

    HI,

It;s totally not necessary to do that thing.

But you should redirect your non www domain to www domain, if you don;t do that then Google consider both domain are different.

    Thanks

BTW, in WP - it's enough to set the preferred url under "Settings" and that's it no? (that's what I've done on other sites, but somehow on a new site it's not working for me )

I agree with the others, if you're talking about an established site, just leave it the way it is.
