    Default News Pages

    Hey guys,

So I am adding a news section to my site, I was going to make it so every news article will feature on .com/news but also part of it would feature on the index.html part of my site.

Is this a good idea? Does Google realize I am updating my site frequently, especially the index page changing. Or is just having it located at .com/news suffice?

    Thanks!

Google will realize it. If you update a page frequently, Google will check it more. The more you update the more Google will check it.

You should have 1 page with a overview of all news, the index page like you said is good. Google will check that page more frequent and find the links to the full article on /news

    Thanks for the response,

I was thinking of having a paragraph that would have a portion of the latest news article on the index page, then /news would have all the articles and obviously each news article has its own page. Or is this too much duplicate text throughout the site?

    Thanks!

If you write extremely good content it may go into the google news. There was a time I had myself on a google alert for a keyphrase and I opened the email and saw my site there. I was shocked, I started to think about what I did differently with this article than others. The first thing is there was no direct affiliate link in that post. The other thing is I was just writing freely, not to target a keyphrase but just descriptions of the setting of the situation. The more I read the bettor I can write, There is a fiction author that I like, Nelson Demille who is extremely descriptive.

    Thanks for the reply.

Didn't really answer my question about whether having a short "teaser" of the latest article in my index file is a good idea or not

Not 100% about it so I don't want to say yes or no. I would say you do not need to but it could help.

I don't think it is a problem to have a teaser at your index page. I always have a teaser, most of the times the first paragraph, as a teaser. Almost everyone has. That is how the CMS systems like Wordpress work. And Google knows that.

I haven't used this one yet, but looking at it, it appears to cover your needs.

A sitemap might get your posts/pages indexed faster.

Yeh I have a sitemap, and have submitted it to google.
Do I need an actual link saying sitemap on my site or just submitting it is enough?

Submitting it to google is enough.

I've also listed my sitemap on my robots.txt file so that other search engines can find it.

Having a small link to your sitemap file from your homepage is also another option
