    Question SEO Tips if Any

    Hi Guys,

    I am a newb to the forum as well as to affiliate marketing, but hoping to make a success of this and would appreciate and assistance I can receive;

In order to get my site to where it is currently, I have used a few people, for the site build and to assist with the initial SEO set-up, the part that is a bit murky, is how to move forward from here.

I don't have many pages on my site and I am assuming that I would need to add more pages, using more terms that rank and ensuring that I am competing for terms that I have a chance of capitalizing from. Logically, that makes sense to me, however have found in my journey thus far, that things are never as easy as they seem.

Looking forward to hearing from you....

Hi, I use social advertising through a number of social media platforms (mainly Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr) which helps me to increase my traffic. Although, when I first started out in this industry about 16 years ago now, the competition wasn't so difficult as it is currently. I'm still getting FTDs every now and then, but noticeably less in comparison to when I was still a new casino affiliate way back in 2004/2005.

Are you getting any traffic now? (however small). Impressions but no or little traffic? - work out where that traffic or those impressions are originating from, to what pages, the intent of the visitors. Improve it to deliver (better) what those visitors are looking for. There are a number of tools that will help with this, but I'd venture to say the easiest (and free) one to start with would be GSC (Google Search Console).

That will give you a start with what you've got, so you have a chance of seeing some positive results that will act as encouragement.

Behind that (judging by your post), you're at the start of a long and never-ending (but fascinating, although sometimes frustrating) road, and half a dozen Mt Everest's that stand in the way. Go into it with the knowledge that it's not easy, don't underestimate the time and effort that's needed, understand from the outset that making money form it is nowhere near as 'easy' as it once was, and various aspects are changing all the time that could (and logically will) make it harder.

Spend some time learning. Search this forum. Read as many threads as you can. Search Google - SEO or SEO for beginners - study every page in the top 20. Ask individual or specific questions here about anything you don't get.

But be under no illusions. There is a lot to understand and learn. It'll (very likely) take years worth of experience to really get it.

But all that experience (assuming you are working with the specific intent of attracting web traffic to website pages, and there are other options as mentioned by Cash Bonus) will ultimately come down to the general quality of your site......

The site has to be technically strong (speed, security etc), user focused (easy to use, delivers a good user experience), well structured (it presents the subject in a way that's adequate to cover it deeply, and a way that would encourage a visitor to explore more/find what they want to know easily, and in a way that the search engines can interpret and present 'intuitively')...and above all, but in addition, its content needs to be as unique, deep, intelligent, well written, and cover the subjects as well as you can make it.

Within each of those are thousands of specifics and complexities. Impossible to detail here, although you will find many of them on the SEO specific sites you'll find on the searches mentioned above, and dotted around threads on this forum.

Taking all this into account, now think about your current target subject. Is it too broad? Do you have the resources to tackle it adequately (time, ability, money if necessary). It may be that the best way to proceed would be to adapt or change.

So...I pretty much skimmed it in 20 lines and may have missed a couple of aspects that will get picked up by others hopefully. If you have a significant amount of money to burn on it, there is one corner that could be cut that will have some impact, + of course you could cut out the learning time and get someone else with the experience engaged. I'm suspecting you're not starting with money to burn.

Aside from all that, if you post the URL of your site you will get some more specific pointers, though many of them will fall into one or more of the brackets mentioned.

MichaelSchumann, the FB account was created nearly a decade ago (in 2012) and it's been up ever since.

Have a read of what they say about advertising gambling content:

So if you do not have a license or something, how then you are doing your promotions thru FB or it is some kind of well-covered advertising with not exactly gambling related content.. I mean not directly or?

Synthetic, it's all gambling related content, but the account isn't used as much as it was before, that's all. I don't know what else to tell you and I can't make it any clearer than that.

There is no any sense of what you are claiming about your acc if it was often used or no. There is just two cases - bookies/casinos are promoting with license and others don't. If they find a way to do this tricky then the hummer will ban your ad account.

We've got a FB page before with more than 20k followers collected by promoting the page for almost an year and we promoted tips mainly by branding with the page's name, not directly. So after an year FB decided to shut it down... I think there is no way FB will leave anybody that way no matter how often you are using a specific acc or no

The current FB page for gambling content is at hxxps://www.facebook.com/business/help/345214789920228?id=352746782475779&_rdr ( the permission form is at hxxps://www.facebook.com/help/contact/691814950897009?_rdr )

    Policies

"global policies" - "that promote online gambling" "are only allowed with our prior written permission" AND "Common types of gambling or gaming activities which may require permission include betting, lotteries, raffles, casino, fantasy sports, bingo, poker, online skill-based tournaments and sweepstakes. "include betting, lotteries, raffles, casino, fantasy sports, bingo, poker, online skill-based tournaments and sweepstakes" including "affiliate sites that promote online gambling"

    DO NOT require permission
    - Promotion of physical, real-money gambling activity or establishments - Ex: “brick and mortar casinos” in Las Vegas, entertainment events at casinos or streaming of offline poker tournaments, provided the ad/landing page does not promote or facilitate online gambling.
    - Social casino games are games that simulate real money casino games but do not offer prizes of monetary value.
    - State/Government Run Lotteries ... by an entity which has direct or exclusive responsibility for running that state/government lottery
    - Handicappers Services that provide odds, provided the ad/landing page does not promote or facilitate online gambling.
    - Entirely free-to-play games

Generally speaking, you can usually get away without asking permission. But if you are successfull they will eventually shut unless you are an 'official site' with a license.

I still have half a dozen FB pages but they don't get any real traction due to their algorithm. Every time I try to do more with them, they get unpublished. Both youtube and facebook were great, but they've gotten a lot more difficult for the typical affiliate.

For a small op. the best SEO is still a niche with content that does not simply include run-of-the-mill BS reviews but something that includes 'flair', an angle, a shtick, a hook, something new/fresh/funny/riveting

Anyone who wants to continue with this FB bo****ks...I'd suggest you are off topic and, although it may have some value for the OP, it's not really helping based on the sentiment of the original post. Anyone who specifically wants to talk FB can do so here...........

Think it's all been said before in one or two threads there, but you can resurrect if you desire.

I put a lot of emphasis on the frequency of posting and the selection of keywords for article titles and headings.

It is very difficult, but I try to use niche keywords that have a reasonable search volume.

I would like to know what else I should pay attention to.

Not a bad strategy at a fairly basic level, of course.

But all the post volume or keyword analysis/selection in the world will likely not get you very far unless:

They are applied to a site where they fit intelligently/intuitively/well within the structure, and the content (as expertly as possible) is written and tailored to support the keyword target(s).

For a beginner, those two are going to give you a foundation on which you can grow.

So...at this point...what should you do?

Maybe surprisingly, the answer is stop. And think. And ask yourself......

    1. Am I potentially wasting my time? - in other words, is there sufficient chance of a payback from this subject that will satisfy what I need to get from it to have made the effort worthwhile.
    2. Have I got the structure of my site either in place or I have a plan for how I'm going to cover it to best effect (without having to change the structure later)?
    3. Can I really have a chance of competing, even for these 'low' competition keyword targets? (in other words, can I write authoritative/valuable content around them and hence present information that will be useful to visitors)?

If the answers are the 'right' ones, then - assuming you're at an early stage, and assuming the site itself has no major technical issues - focus on the content.

Behind that, there are dozens, and (when you get into the detail) hundreds of things you'll need to do for the medium/longer term. But they can wait a bit.

Here are a few things I've noticed since having an affiliate website. Regardless of how great you write an article, the bigger fish will eat you in the long run. Backlinks, domain age and authority are critical. For example: My website is about 6 months old and I managed to get a featured snippet for one of the slot reviews I've posted. It was not long until I ultimately dropped 3 positions including the snippet and that's because:

    1) The main competitors caught up with me and they also posted a review about that slot (bear in mind that I was among the first to release the review but without demo play)
    2) Backlinks are playing a major role in the ranking for popular queries (obviously) + the domain authority and other ingredients such as domain age. I was lacking all three compared to the competition.
    3) Although the content was great IMO, the audience tends to stick to their favourites and I don't blame them since the website that usually takes the first position releases epic articles which are unmatched at the moment.
    4) My website struggles with iframes, for some reason users cannot scroll past an embed slot demo game, so at the moment I cannot offer my visitors the opportunity to play the fun versions.

So if you're missing out on some of the points mentioned above, you should start look into improving them. Google still favours the websites with higher backlinking profile, although there are some exceptions

Yep, you are unfortunately getting to the specifics of what goes 'wrong' (and everyone will have experienced those at times, and many others). So it's an almost perfect illustration of why you have to focus on specific things at the start.

You cannot affect what others are doing. You cannot take away the competition. You can only worry about what you (and maybe Google) are doing and make sure you're best placed to be able to move forward and hopefully compete in some areas....you can observe what the competition is doing and maybe learn from it, but without specific strength indicators of your own you will almost certainly always be fighting a losing battle...so....

    Eliminate any technical issues
    Structure the site effectively
Fill it with good quality content

Other elements come on top of that (links etc), but you need a foundation.
