Default Paddy Power betting shops to reopen on Monday

Flutter Entertainment announced it will reopen all of its Paddy Power retail shops across England and 150 locations in the Republic of Ireland beginning 15 June - just in time for Royal Ascot.

    From Paddy Power:

For the first time in months customers will be able to place a bet instore on everything that’s going on from horse racing to the resumption of the Premier League – but we’re asking you to Do Your Bit and ensure guidelines and procedures are followed.

For the time being, Paddy’s shops in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will remain closed but we will keep you updated as the situation develops. All open shops are subject to continual review.
As our shops reopen, our number one priority is keeping our customers and team members safe. So, all our shops will follow the latest government guidelines on social distancing. Here’s more on what to expect in our shops.

    • We’ll be managing the number of customers in our shops at any one time. Please bear with us.
    • You’ll notice floor markings in-store to help you queue safely. Please keep at least two metres from others, as much as possible.
    • Please use our hand sanitisers when you enter our shop, before and after machine use, and again when you leave.
    • It’s best to use contactless payment, where possible.
    • When writing out bets, please take the pen with you or bin it.

Interesting to see how this works in practical terms with people milling around the shops, watching the screens and playing the bandits, but a positive move nevertheless.

This is great and welcome news.

Really hoping that this will be the start of better things to come for all of us and our industry. We’ve got to remain positive. No matter what life throws at us.

You can never let your guard down when it comes to personal hygiene and we must all continue to practice social distancing and never become complacent about the coronavirus.

Looks like most of the high street bookies in England will now open on Monday ahead of Ascot, saw a similar announcement from Ladbrokes earlier.

It looks like Ascot Racecourse also finally updated their site with some info about the event. Been checking for weeks and they were just showing the same page saying that they would run the races and update later.

Until social distancing is relaxed, I find it hard to see how they will make much money. Most betting shops are quite small and packed. Whilst this means cheaper rent and rates, it will mean very few people in at a time to stay compliant. What is the average amount wagered per person? Surely most of the profit they make is from machines. How will they operate? Wiped every time used?

Obviously its a positive step to see shops re-opening but just conscious of the fact we are still very far away from any semblance of normality.

Didn't last long though did it. Has anyone any update on if they are now re-open again? or a date confirmed?
