Once a link has been disavowed, should I expect it to disappear from the 'links to your site' list in search console? How long should that take?

In my experience whenever I have done it they will still show in the list

I don't think that it will disappear from the list. It will just be like a dead link. The reason being is that Google will not recognise it as a high and good quality link.
