I was wondering when it is best to use posts versus pages. I usually use posts, however I think I should be using pages more. I am not sure the advantages and disadvantages. If anyone can add their two cents that would be great!

Without being an expert on the subject I would say that posts are always best for time sensitive information.. A one off promotion for a limited time, a sports match preview, a piece of news etc. This is obviously dated on Google so people will know that it's recent.
I try to stick to timeless information on pages. Or at least need only to be updated every now and then. These are what I try to make my money pages.
I use the posts to try and send visitors towards my money pages.

I found this on the wordpress site.
Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological order on the blog home page or on the posts page if you have set one in Settings → Reading. If you have created any sticky posts, those will appear before the other posts. Posts can be found in the Archives, Categories, Recent Posts, and other widgets. Posts are also displayed in the RSS feed of the blog. You can control how many posts are displayed at a time in the Reading Settings. The URL for a post includes the date the post was published.
Pages are static and are not listed by date. Pages do not use tags or categories. An About page is the classic example. Pages can be displayed in the sidebar using the Pages widget, and some themes display pages in tabs at the top of the blog. If you have 50 pages and you use the Pages widget, then all pages will be listed all the time.
If you are making a static page use a page. Most of my websites are in Wordpress and I use pages for everything except my "news" section. So reviews, banking info etc would all be pages. I made the same mistake once for one of my websites and actually went back and changed all the posts to pages except the "news" section.
Unless your website is a blog, you should be using pages.

I use pages for static information like casino reviews, contact page, terms & conditions, blackjack strategy guide etc. I use posts for things like new casino game reviews, promotions, industry news etc. My posts way out number my pages.
I can then classify my posts with categories. For example I would create a category called Slot Reviews and then maybe subcategories for Playtech, Microgaming, NetEnt etc. I would then place the Slot Reviews category in my navigation. I then set-up my menu to show the sub-categories under Slot Reviews.
WordPress is a CMS so you should utilise it's full potential.

I have been wrangling with this problem for a while, pages vs posts. I agree all main content that you want viewing public to see all the time should be pages. But does anyone know whether posts get priority over pages in the search engines?
Do they get indexed quicker for instance.
I am tempted for my next venture to have an all static paged website, news and time sensitive promotions included. Unless someone can persuade me otherwise.
Wordpress is the bomb though. Just wish i understood it a bit more.

I too lean towards pages for timeless content such as my casino reviews and game reviews. My posts I use to information that may or may not be relevant in the days to come. That being said, I don't have many posts.

Thank You Guys! I appreciate it, I have a better understanding now.
What about long extensions, for instance lets say I am writing an article on the braves. The Title may be MLB Bettting - Braves Trends ext.. Is it considered shady/grey area to make the page or post myurl/betonmlb?
Now, lets say I make a page on The NFL Football Betting Cincinatti Bengals (with a longer title), and I created a sub-page for each week, for week 1, 2, 3 ext....
The URL can become super long such as myurl.com/NFLFootballBettingCincinattiBengals/BestNFLBetWeek10
In a situation like that is it shady to shorten it to something like myurl/betonbengals/week1?

Something I was taught to do, which generates even more content is to have pages created for each of these keywords.
myurl.com/football/NFL/CincinattiBengals/Week10
Extracted "betting" as I was hoping it's in your domain name.
Now you have created an "football" page to host all types +1 content page, a "NFL" page that can host all of your teams, +1 content page, a page for the Bengals, +1 content page and then your target page. That being said, I try to practice white hat as much as possible. As far as I know this qualifies as white and it gives you more room for content.
Just a personal opinion as far as how good it works, I guess if you deploy it, let me know.
Interesting read, although the end of the post still confused me as it says that search engines view timeless pages as more important than timely. only to go on to say that priority is given to timely content.
Doh!
No wonder SEO is hard. Will be sticking to a mix of pages and posts in future.

I think everything you need to know has already been mentioned above regarding the difference between posts and pages.
I also checked your site and what I recommend is tracking the affiliate link internally. So for example instead of sending your visitors directly to the operator site use an affiliate link cloaking plugin. I've used this one however i'm sure there are plenty of others.

Thanks Kristal.
Just downloaded the plugin and it does the trick. Only problem is its sent my sidebar up the wall.
The joys of plugins!

Oh no, i'm sorry to hear hehe but yes it does happen. However if you Google the error you might come across some solutions from other who have had previous problems. I like to use Themfuse wordpress templates, their support is great too and there is the click and install feature on their templates so you don't even need to think too much about how to structure your site. Anyway, good luck.![]()

The use of plugins for every little thing just adds overhead to a wordpress site when often there are must faster solutions without them.

post if you upgrade the content regularly and page if you have a static website
I made a lot of sites on WP. From experience I can say that for SEO there is no difference what you use. The main thing is to properly configure the heredity of the URL. Otherwise, see what you prefer to use in technical terms to fill the site.
one thing that is important is that you can nest pages, you can't nest posts. if I have a series of articles, I would make a parent page and nest all of them as child pages. Though you can do something similar with posts and categories.
I find it useful to use posts for periodic updates (news, etc.), pages for static one-off content and custom post types for other content types. This helps bots understand the structure/hierarchy of the website and save crawl budget.
about the URL structure:
myurl.com/NFLFootballBettingCincinattiBengals/BestNFLBetWeek10
not sure you use the URLs like that, but just in case, it's not a practice. It's better to use dashes to separate words in the URLs.
You want the bots to understand the URLs, that's the first thing they "see" when crawling a page.
In this case I'd do something like this:
myurl.com/nfl-football-betting/cincinatti-bengals/week-10
