Hurricane Earl knocks Intertops offline

Hurricane Earl was upgraded to a Category 3 hurricane around 11 am today, and the storm is wreaking havoc in the Caribbean. The storm also wreaked havoc for an online gambling company, it knocked out services for major online casino and sportsbook Intertops.

The GPWA has a short write-up about the situation:

A Category 3 hurricane in the Caribbean has knocked out services for major online casino and sportsbook Intertops.

Hurricane Earl has caused major power outages in the island of Antigua, where Intertops is based. As of Monday morning, the Intertops.com Web site and all of its services were down.

The company released a statement on Monday that said it was working to restore services to its customers, and would send out a notification via e-mail as soon as it was back online.

A bit of good news now though, and hopefully not temporary. As of this posting, the Intertops Web site was accessible.

I've been in the industry for a few years now and this is the first time I've heard of a hurricane taking out an operator. Has this happened in the past? I'd imagine any operator out of the carribean would have something like this happen every year during hurricane season.

Same here! I'd never heard of this kind of news before. Well I hope the company can restore what they lost. And may the hurricane end soon.
