Best Way To Geo Target

I've got some questions about writing and promoting content for different countries in my wordpress site.

I'm not sure what is best practice or what works so have a number of questions that hopefully will help me decide on the correct approach.

I already use a Geo Targeting plugin to do some basic targeting of content.

I want to create a series of pages in specific languages as well as English. So for example I want to target Swedish players, so I want a page in English, but if the player is from Sweden I want the Swedish version shown. I sort of know how to do this using the Plugin I have. But it's complicated by my desire to do the below.

I'd like to be able to target the keywords in both English and Swedish, so I can rank in Google.com / Google.co.uk and Google.SE. I've done some testing and used the same search keywords in English and then in Swedish and I get different results in each of the search engines English / vs Swedish. I'd like to get my page listed in all three for both languages. Is there a way to do this if I'm using Wordpress?

What do other people do.?

I can think of some additional questions but they might not be relevant depending on what is possible.

It would be great to hear how you've solved this problem or any advice you may have.

In this case would it not be better to have different language versions of the site within different sub folders. Eg:

yoursite.com/en/
yoursite.com/se/

With the user redirected based on location or browser language? You can then use hreflang to tell goog's what's going on: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077

If all goes to plan, Google would then rank the relevant sub folder based on the users country. So google.se would return the yoursite.com/se/ results and google.co.uk would return the yoursite.com/en/.

As you mentioned wordpress I would imagine there are plug ins that can handle this for you as it's fairly common for multi national sites.

Cheers, that confirms what i've been reading.

I was hoping to be able to get away with just a few pages that i would get translated. That content would then remain static. I don't fancy taking on full translation and all the maintenance that goes with it every time I add or change something.

I'll press on doing them all in English as they're needed anyway while I work out how to do individual pages rather than the whole site.
