Default Its not just for women and its scary ...

My brother in law, one of my best mates too after being married to his sister for 27 years, has just been diagnosed with cancer!

Bad enough, however, he has breast cancer!

1 in a million chance apparently, however, a wake up call for us men to check our own breasts as well!

I am so sorry to hear this Paul. My god you and your family have been through so much this past year. You are in my thoughts.

Yes, you are so right about men checking themselves for any type of lump in the breast area that seems out of place. It is a shame it is so "unspoken" of in the male world, but breast cancer does exist for men as well as women, just not as often. I am sure in the history of our world that many men had the ailment, but were not diagnosed because of lack of education.

Thank goodness your brother in law has been diagnosed, and hopefully will recover after treatment.

Please keep us up todate if its not to invasive. I am sure that most men here would like to know more, and may learn to check themselves as a percaution just like women have to.

Keep the faith, be strong and help him through this scary time.

    All my best

Thanks Pat and yes we have been through some torment just lately.

He only spotted it when he went for a check up after a spinal operation last week and asked the doctor to have a look at his nipple that appeared to be growing inwards.

He was booked in for this thursday for a mastectomy, when they will also take some lymph nodules for testing too to see if it has spread.

I have a really bad feeling this time and expect to find out that it has spread and that things will deteriorate.

I really hope not and dread the though of what may be!

Keep hugging him paul and hope for the best. i've had a few friends over the years who've been hit by cancer. Two had a tough time but are alive and doing pretty well. A third friend was lucky enough that his was isolated, so a bit of surgery was all that he needed.

So much progress has been made in treatments in the last few decades, that there is more reason to hopeful.

good luck to you brother-in-law and the whole family.

Sorry to hear you had bad news Paul hope he gets sorted.

I agree you that breast cancer in us guys is not really talked about, everybody need to check on a regular basis same goes for your balls as well, so many people dont check them, which is odd consider most men have there hands in there pants around 5% of the day.

Thoughts are with your brother inlaw.

I just want to add to this for chicks out there to go get your lady bits checked too! And I know they say to check every 2 years, but you will be better off doing it more often just in case. Don't leave it too late.

Thanks guys and just to let you know, he went under the knife thursday afternoon.

It was a 5 hr op and went well.

Visited him yesterday and its like he had a broken toe nail fixed. Full of life, no ill effects etc

Have to wait for results of tests on lymph nodes, however, fingers crossed.
