Domain name containing software title - Yes or No?

Hi guys,

I am thinking about creating a slot reviews website that would be dedicated to a single provider, but I am not sure how things stand with regards to using a software name as part of the domain.

I know that there are sites like NetEntCasinos and others, so do you think it is ok to use software name as part of the domain? For example: Would something like www.Playtechonlinecasinos.com be ok?

I wouldn't want any legal battles in the future, so it is best to be sure before I purchase the domain.

On a similar note, are non-UK residents allowed to register .co.uk domains?

Netent seems to be very lenient about others using Netent in their domain name. But there is always a risk, I think. Laws could change and company policies could change. There is always a chance that you have to take your site down in the future, even if you are "on their side". Personally, I think you are running a bigger risk by using terms like Marvel in your domain name, as this is not just about gambling but is also movie, comic books and merchandise related. Soms companies do not want to be associated with gambling and might cause a problem.

It is always a risk. Some companies protect their TMs aggressively, while others are much more lenient as the other poster said.

Personally if it's a serious site I wouldn't risk it. Although it also depends on the reputation of the TM holder. If you're not willing to take some risks, what are you doing in the gambling industry?

Thanks for your input guys. I have even written to the software provider to see how they feel about this and I will make a decision after weighing all the pros and cons. If anyone else has an opinion, I will be glad to take it into consideration.

If the software provider company is ok with it, I will probably go ahead and put things into motion. Of course, their stance may change in the future, but, as you say pokeraussie, we are constantly taking risks in the industry.

Besides the TM issues, I would suggest reading more about EMD sites, as Google has become impatient about them. There is a high risk of getting filtered, especially when G update is about to start working.

In 2012, there was a Google EMD update, which made it tougher for EMDs with poor content to rank.
