Isabell sent this to me today and after I read it I thought "yes, we are a bit bizarre"...

So thought I would share, especially for those who have either not ever been to Oz, or who have never met an Aussie :P

Just to add to this, I am one of those aussies that no matter how cold it is, I will continue to wear thongs (for thong reference, see article). Even during the london conferences I have them on. It's how we roll!

Did we really come up with the dwarf tossing? I thought that was an eastern european thing. I've never seen it done in Oz.

I don't know I've never seen it done either, but apparently it was invented in Qld in the mid 80's (not that surprising haha). Kinda amazed that the record is 30 feet though, that's a serious toss!

Yeah that is a serious toss.

We had a sports day at the office once and one of the events was computer tossing. I am always saying I want to throw my computer out the window, so I volunteered for that event. It was one of the old big boxes and the only thing it didnt have was a back and a hard drive, so I only managed to get it about 2-3 metres. Very poor effort. And I imagine it would have weighed far less than a dwarf. Although I have amazing arm muscles and upper body strength now so I suppose I could probably give it a better try next time.

Some QLDers are very strange.. (no offence to any QLDers here)

Renee, I always giggle to myself when I hear you mention the word "thong" because in SA we call a G String a thong, and when you and your better half came over and we were driving you to our house - I remember you saying something about wearing nothing but thongs all the time and Andy and myself looked at each other in disbelief as we could not believe you could be so forward and open with us when we had just met you.

Us South Africans tend to be somewhat conservative, so this was why we were somewhat shocked when you were talking about your thongs. LOL. We had a good laugh when you explained to us that thongs in OZ were actually what we call "Flip Flops "or "Slops"

Well the only one that has ever been used on me was "Nice shoes, wanna root?" and I laughed in the guys face and walked off..
(Root, rooting, having a root etc in Oz means sex btw, and it's a very bogan way of talking about it)

haha thanks for the warning sign, if I ever go to Australia I will make sure not to say that one, or even say that word "root" at all... Unless I have a great opportunity to use it!
