Default Next.js vs WordPress for iGaming affiliate sites — performance comparison

I recently migrated one of my casino affiliate sites from WordPress to Next.js (static generation) and wanted to share some observations for anyone
    considering the same move.

    The main reasons I switched:

    1. Core Web Vitals — WordPress with plugins was sitting at LCP ~3.8s. After migration to Next.js with static pages, it dropped to under 1.2s. Google's
ranking signals responded within about 6 weeks.

    2. Security — WordPress sites in the gambling niche get targeted constantly. Eliminated plugin vulnerabilities entirely by going static.

    3. Scalability — Programmatic content at scale (hundreds of pages) is much easier to manage through a CMS + API approach than WordPress templates.

The downsides: you lose the familiar WP editor, and non-technical editors need a learning curve. For solo operators or small teams with dev resources,
Next.js is worth it. For large editorial teams, WordPress still makes sense.

Curious if others in the affiliate space have made similar moves and what results you've seen with Google after the switch

I built entirely from scratch when i left Vbulletin, i had all custom paged then as well but built on top of the vb core. So moving to Next was not a giant leap but looking back i would have done a lot differently now, and am slowly migrating code to reflect what I want. The security of serverless deployments, speed and control are great though vs heavy WP core, but people make WP work with enough caching ext...

I moved to NextJS as well. It was more than worth it, but certainly comes with some headaches as you scale up. I have quite a few slots in my system and without caching it could take 3-5 seconds to load a page. So - I had to do some funky things (like cache some parts of a page while not caching other parts) in order to achieve my speed goals.

With that said - I would never run WP anymore. You can create your own admin that is very similar to WP with NextJS also. It's not really that hard and not too hard to secure either.

your doing something wrong..... all pages should render before user sees them, i don't pre render all 27000 slots on afc but they do over time after build..

I'm assuming you mean ISR which is a form of caching. With GEO I have to do some stuff that is a little different to make sure I'm not caching GEO information and having issues with UK banning my site (or other areas). That is possibly where it comes in, I"m not 100% sure. I do not pre-render either - so I am more talking about 1st-time-render I would guess as well. Once it is in ISR (or Cloudflare even) - it is fast, under 1s.

Interesting. I'm using ISR-Safe client-side display via API. which, officially would be called "client fetch island. I think what I have done is really just a different way of doing it, but not a bad way from what I can tell.

With stuff like Payload CMS, you can make it incredibly easy for non-technical users to add content. I don't think I'll ever go back to WordPress.
