I think I was hit with that earlier in the year, but they wrongly assumed I checked that email I guess, because had no clue the context, I just knew I hadn't sold anything with paypal. Good to know

There's a crypto fraud I embarrassingly fell for recently, affecting Solana wallets. The way it works is when you withdraw(say to an exchange from your desktop wallet), instantly after you'll receive a dust transaction of like +0.000001 SOL - which I thought was like excess fee returned. The trick is, it's a near duplicate address of your usual withdrawal address, with the starting with the same 4 first digits, and ending with the same 4 last digits. So when you go back to your wallet to make another withdrawal (especially in my wallet, where it's 1 click to copy an address, and I just remember what the address begins and starts with, so will accidently clicked the recent one that look the same), you accidently send to the duplicate address(which I just wrongly assumed was some like gas fee return or something, like thought must all be the same address). Apparently, it's called "poisoning", and happens a lot on Solana, to confuse people with near duplicate wallet addresses so they accidently send to the wrong one. Only lost like $70 from it, but really was annoying I fell for it. Got to make sure to check the middle digits of the send address.

These kinds of scams seem to come in waves. A friend lost several thousand dollars to something like this a few years ago, and there was no way to get the money back. As a general rule, whenever I receive a payment I wait for the sender to reach out, and if there’s any issue, I prefer they request a refund through the platform. At the end of the day, even if it turns out to be an honest mistake, it’s still their responsibility, and I have the right to take precautions.
