    Default Google Adwords question

Started some ads with google targeting uk. Www.sbat.com was domain used.

They said apply for uk gambling account, so I did this options a operator or b aggregator.

I thought I was a aggregator? But the are saying I need a operator one and need to contact gambling commission.

is this right? Do I need any licences from gambling commission?

    thanks for your help

    Gary, Update your news...

And, Adwords will cost you. A lot. If you do not know what you are doing, stay WELL away from it, or get professional help.

What were you willing to pay per click? Reconsider whether or not it will be worth it, if no one actually takes action.

The only one who laughs all the way to the bank, is our good friend Google.

They might be right about licenses etc. Personally, I'd never use Adwords.

    Best of luck.
    Thank you!

I've been using google adwords for keywords research mainly and not for advertising purposes.
So I am not also familiar on how it works but antihacker is right, if you do not know what you are doing then you can seek for someone who actually use it, at least someone you know that can teach you how it works. Some might be able to help you here but I think it is much better is someone will be able to guide you personally. You don't want to risk your money in an instant, right?

I suspect they have misunderstood what your site does. I'd go back and say.....'my site exists to do/provide xxxxxxxx, are you sure that needs it to be classed as an operator? If so, can you explain why?'...and then educate them.

Second the other comments too...but I think you already know that stuff anyway.

PS Been discussed before here https://www.gpwa.org/forum/google-mo...-a-190952.html

PPS ...and if I interpret this page right it suggests they might be right. Click on the UK to open up the 'rules'. Maybe this has changed recently.

I'm using Google AdWords to target UK traffic.
If you set yourself as "aggregator", you don't need any license.
BTW, try to contact a GAdW representative (support).
And, as antihacker said, you should get professional help... if you choose wrong keywords it will cost you a lot of money without returns.

I'm just testing it on our site: returns are bad for now...

Yeah the testing is me dipping me toe in with low budgets not going to go big.

they rejected my app as aggregator though and said I was a operator

if anyone has any contacts that could help with this would be amazing.

I already had a Google Adwords setup for a retail site but gave up trying to set it up for an affiliate website because of the cost and trouble getting the content accepted. I created the ads but you are looking at £2 a click minimum bid for even low competition phrases.

I had my gambling ad declined, they contacted me and was told I had to apply as an Operator but they declined it and told me to apply as an Aggregator but this was declined because they could see an aggregated prices. They don't seem to cater for gambling sites if you don't fall in to one of those two categories, I actually spoke to them on the phone and didn't get anywhere. I'm sure I could have sorted it eventually but at £2 a click I can't see how it could be profitable as an affiliate.

I have read on the forums before about sites working with Adwords but you'll need to convert a high percentage of the traffic to make any profit.

Yeah this happens quite frequently and is an error. From my experience there are two support teams, one general one that has some arse/elbow confusion and the specialised ones that know what they're talking about.

Just reply to it and tell them you're only an aggregator and that no wagering takes place on your site.

Adwords can be profitable, but you need to pick your keywords and set up your pages right - including different landing pages for different ad groups, and different ad groups for different keyword groups. If you start bidding for hollywood terms and throw everything at your home page you'll just have an expensive exercise in what not to do.

Set up separate tracking too (ideally for each landing page) and monitor the profitability of each group so you can adjust accordingly (looking at both net gain and also the value of the accounts that the keywords generate).

You also mention you're going in with a small budget. Micro scale campaigns will make it difficult to assess profitability accurately so don't make any rush judgements after a few hundred quid.

I'm scared of Adwords too, I've lost loads of natural ranking places in the last few months due to Google being a total bitch, but I am scared to get involved in Adwords right now. It does look like Google is trying to force all affiliates in this direction ultimately unless you can establish a big brand e.g. Oddschecker, OLBG etc.

I use adwords a lot. If you drill down to the exact keywords for people who are ready to sign up you can get some really good conversions and I don't pay more that 1-2p per click.

At the moment I get around 3 sign ups per hundred clicks so around 33p per sign up.

That sounds like my kind of arithmetic, tempted now.

It has taken a lot of trial and error and you certainly have to 'think outside of the box' but the opportunities are there.

Just remember to block all bookie names at a campaign level and add words like free to your negative list as a minimum.

Also don't expect to get cheap bids on anything like "sign up to play bingo", you really have to drill down.

I work in sports so try to plan around events and matches coming up and go after them

LUFC sounds good, if you could just write them down and email them over

But thanks for the advice, really going to look into this.

The small budget are only tests, i will eventually move some of my other budgets if i can find some angles.

Cheers for the great advice mate, I'll definitely be giving a few things a try and will report back my successes or failures.

Most would be useless until next year anyway as my recent campaigns are around the US Open and the FIBA World Cup.

When I first started I used to set a 'decent' budget of around £5 before deciding if it works or not (I say decent because with my love of 1-2p clicks that's 250-500 clicks) but now it tends to be more of a case of 100 clicks (or a £1).

The majority of what I target are time sensitive which mans that there is not much competition but you do have to make quick decisions on what to bid for an if it is or isn't working. Even if I have spent hours creating a page and then finding the keywords, if it doesn't covert I simply stop promoting. It sounds like a 'well of course' type statement but it can b hard after creating the good content and spending the time to research.

One other thing that I think people forget is that it is a 3 part system in aff marketing, you need to get people to click on your link to your website, then click on a link to a bookie and then register/deposit.

You need to give people a reason to do all of that in your ad, then back it up and convince on your website and then pick bookies that convert.

I think it helps me that I try to attract people searching for things just about to happen or happening as they are after the info I give now and must act straightaway.
