Bwin reveals online gambling study results

Online betting and gaming provider Bwin has revealed the results of a study done on the behavior of online poker players.

The study was carried out by the Division On Addictions of the Cambridge Health Alliance at Harvard University.

Bwin revealed that this was the world's largest longitudinal and the first epidemiological study of its kind and sampled 3,445 online poker players over two years. It found that individuals exhibit rational behavior when playing online and do so moderately.

'In this research we provide additional evidence in support of our previous research showing that most subscribers who gamble on the Internet do so moderately,” said Howard Shaffer, Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and Director for The Cambridge Health Alliance’s Division On Addictions.

“In fact, correlation analysis indicated that as percent lost increased, duration, total gambling sessions and total amount wagered all decreased suggesting that individuals moderated their behavior based on their wins and their losses, exhibiting ‘rational’ betting behavior.'

I like to see real studies on online gambling done by professionals. So far, the political environment has been against gambling on pure "ethical and moral" grounds that is based on conjecture alone. The release of this study could not be at a better time.

It would be interesting to do the same study on other types of games as well increase the scope to include other casino games and sport betting.

Yeah. Focusing only at poker games can't really reveal much of the potential of most gamblers and online casino players.Maybe because, playing the game itself requires a good psychological background, socially.
