    Default Domain Extension

    Hello,

I'm new on the forum, and I want to start a first affiliate site. I saw .online extension, and I want to know an opinion about this.

If anyone has any information or advice, I am grateful.

    Thanks.

You mean an opinion on whether you should use it for a site?

imho No obvious reason why not.

I wouldn't suggest it's much good as an investment as an undeveloped domain (more because I know it doesn't appear to have been hammered by registrants, or at least wasn't in the early days of availability in the same way some others were)...but if it's a good name that's relevant to your intended target and you develop it there is no obvious reason you can't make it work....other than all the other barriers a new site has to overcome.

If you want a view on the actual domain you have in mind (and don't want to spill the name of it openly) my contact details are in site in signature, feel free to drop me a line.

Indeed that would depend on what you want to target. Depending on the region you are looking to cover you might want to also look at geo-specific extensions. Not that it will be a factor for SEO (although might be to some extent) these kind of extensions might look more appealing for locals.

Unless the actual domain keyword string is fairly obscure (ie not a reasonably high searched term) then it's very likely it will be gone long ago in cc tlds.....but if it isn't (and OP has a specific country target in mind) then that cc tld might be better (example, it definitely would in UK).

A rough guide way to check would be to search in local Google, see what comes up for the likely main search term, and see what the top 30 or so are using. If they're all .com .net etc then you have an indication that Google don't favour cc tlds...only an indication though because it might just be that no one built a strong site on a cc (yet)

I don't see why you can't use a .online extension. It's meaningful and it stands out well to your audience, including me. It's also relatively popular and it can have potential.

A site called casino (dot online) was sold for $201,250 in 2017. My point is that there is a possibility that it can be a very successful and lucrative business venture.

It can work but a safer option might be a nice .com .... even .net may be more effective but like the guys above said theres still no reason why it cant work well for you!.

I agree with all said above.

If 'online ...' your main keyword it could work well for your SEO and ranking.

And again everything depends on the target market.

I don't think that domain extension has any ranking signal at Google Search. However, it probably doesn't even hurt, unless the user feels it as a spammy-looking-extension.

If you are in a rush, then I think the .com is always best.

There are some old website registration forms that do not even recognize .online as a valid website.

As an example I tried to register a site with a new extension and got the following error “.website is not a valid domain name or unsupported yet”.

The same thing happened when .info came out, but now it's perfectly acceptable.

But you are more likely to get the name that you want with one of the new extensions.
