It's a good find Renee.

I think the article actually suggesting the ethical online marketing including SEO whitehat techniques for a successful affilaite marketing. He's also pointing out that website should look more professional or business-like which I figured to be too broad to specify.

I especially agree with this part:

Thousands are attracted by the possibility of generating skyrocketing incomes through affiliate marketing and so they sign up in any affiliate program without carefully understanding every aspect of the business. When they don’t get instant results, they quit and sign up for another program and repeat the process of just copying links and referring them to others.

When you sign up for an affiliate program, don’t expect to get rich in an instant. Work on your advertising strategies and be patient. You’ll never know how much you can get if you don’t persevere.

The part of the article i most enjoyed was all his keyword/link spam. every mention of "affliate marketing".

Lol, I saw that too - does it mean that we are into SEO/website building so much that we catch these issues first instead of the copy?

The part that made me grin was about the 'hard work'...

I think working 'smart' as an affiliate is way more profitable than working 'hard'...

Take out the link spam etc and I think this is a good starter for newbies.

I think they key is to not expect a return within the first 12 months. I get affiliates coming to me daily telling me they want to earn money etc.. but as soon as I tell them what will be involved, they seem to disappear.

I think you get what you put into it. If you put no work in, you are sure to see nothing in return, whether it's "hard" work or "smart" work (and as I said, I think they can both be the same thing).

The guy who wrote the article is marketing "network marketing". I even tolerated the 5 minute video that said nothing, other than "you can do it".

I do agree with the article when it comes to affiliates giving up to soon. I agree 100%.

This is so true. I didn't expect to get rich in an instant but I had $$ in my eyes when I launched my first site a year ago. This month, a year and a month into the affiliate world, has been my best month ever. It is not thousands but hundreds for me is a good month.

If I would have stewed over the thought that a year ago it would take me a year to make this money, I probably would have given up months ago but I kept telling myself "it takes time" and still have not given up to this day.

When I started in this business, I gave myself five years to make a decent income. Four more to go! And I just see it bringing in more and more money! So what's 4 more years of my life? The way I look at it is "What the hell else would I be doing?"

I basically just posted that link for a few points, obviously not them all, but if it has made a difference to one affiliate, my job here is done

Most of it has to do with organic search in our business...only a handful of affiliates can do PPC in UK Google for gambling, as it is quite expensive....

Yeah PPC might eat all your capitals a lot. Especially if you get traffic yet the conversion aren't good at all to support your campaign.

Being affiliate need something about SEO to progress truly in the business.

I have been a full time gaming affiliate since 1996 and was marketing online long b4 that, before Ebay even, when all we had was Usenet groups to run auctions.

But I live and work by 2 things every day:

and my sig file that many here are familiar with:

I get what you mean about hard work.
What I meant about them being the same thing, take you for example, is that in order to quit your day job two years later you would have had to put in some work researching and planning how to get to the point of quitting your day job. As well as this being "smart" work, I also think that's "hard" work because it wouldn't have been you sitting there for just 1 hour a day doing it.

And if it did, then I think you are the most envied person on the planet

You gotta treat it with selective reading for sure.

I think the overall message I was trying to get out with this is that most affiliates fail because they expect to see a return immediately. If it was that quick and easy, everyone would be doing it. But it takes some work (whether hard or smart ) to see results..

Wow. You must be one of those long proponents of online affiliate marketing. It's also the first time I read about that African proverbs. Genuinely witty and makes sense to a survival driven life in a harsh environment.

Renee, I am about six months into the affiliate game and finding it very hard work and frustrating at times, only made pennies so far. There are some very good points in the article so thanks for posting it.
