Default Banner links in side bars

    Hi -

Does anyone ever get banner links like the ones in the left side bar here:

    https://ggmania.com/

Do you think they have any backlink value for SEO?

I think links or banners from ggmania would pass very little seo value, people see their competitors listed when doing a backlink check, and think that they are going to shoot to the top of Google if they do the same. The guy at ggmania charges $500 per year, he is doing very well from those links and banners, you would be better spending the $500 on content, or getting a few high quality contextual links.

Banner links have very limited SEO value, as opposed to text links. I think Google figured that one out quickly, meaning they're rarely placed in prominent places due to editorial reasons. IMG links on the other hand (embedded within articles etc) can definitely carry value.

For SEO I'd prefer text links with anchors, even from low traffic websites. Banners are only for high-traffic websites.

For SEO terms it is much better contextualized text links.

One banner link can hardly give your site a top. But in my experience, I can say that this is a good impetus for the growth of new keywords and the retention/growth of current ones.
