Directory Submissions good for seo?

Hi All,

Does anyone know the value of directory submissions for seo in the gambling niche. There are many sites offering packages, but are these links worth anything anymore? In the same respect are forum/comment link packages worth the cost?

If you are just getting started with seo, surely you have to take the low value links as no one is going to link to a site with little authority or traffic.

Any advise appreciated.

Hi Phil,

Having experimented with this for several years, my own experience is that the only directory link worth getting (SEO-wise) is from the Yahoo Directory though on one of my (non-gambling) sites, I paid the $299, the site was manually reviewed and approved but never went into the Yahoo Directory and all contact with Yahoo support was ignored.

Yahoo has famously bad customer support but the Directory link is worth getting - forget the rest including BOTW and DMOZ.

PS: One option is to buy an expired domain that already has a current Yahoo Directory link. Let me know if you're unsure how to do that.

I tend to disagree with Terry... I do believe that there are some directory links that are worth having for traffic and for SEO, besides yahoo.

You can always submit to my Casino Directory and see for yourself if directory links help your ranking... (we don't charge a fee, but we are picky about who we let in).

I too am a little unsure about the value of adding sites to directories. However, I'll take a look at the Casino Directory above. Hope you let me in

Yes. offcourse, directory submission is main part in seo because its easy to do, have huge database, gets instant approvals, gives high quality back links.

Sorry, but directory submissions is certainly NOT the main part of seo and if done incorrectly could hurt terribly....

....and never hire an seo consultant that tells you that.

Now lotso's directory, yes I have placed a site or two in there...and this thread reminds me that I need to add another.....

Thanks for the feedback, I had heard about Yahoo directory being good, but also people do say about BOTW & DMOZ being v good links. I guess I'm generally a little suspicious of low value links, perhaps in their 1000s they do have an impact though. Most seo's seem to have a package that includes directory submissions/forum/comment/social bookmarking etc, to me these all seem pretty low value, but I guess they are easy to obtain.

Yes in their 1000s they will get you a nice breach of googles spam guidelines penalty.

(well not 100%, but just don't for the love of God do not pay anyone to build that sort of tripe for you).

These services are part of what gives SEOs such a bad name. : /

It genuinely makes me sad that people are still trying to sell people this sort of thing.

Thanks for the video, clearly the advice is only good quality directories. Which I imagine are few and far between, especially ones that accept gambling sites.

Actually, yahoo stopped adding new gambling sites a while ago (unless they've change their minds again) - a couple of us have tried and got the same response. I received a refund for the fee though.

Just fished out the rejection email, this is the main part:

Yahoo! has reviewed the URL you submitted for expedited review with Yahoo! Directory Submit Order #xxx. We're sorry
to report that your site did not qualify for listing using the Yahoo! Directory Submit service. Yahoo! does not accept listings for online gambling sites. Online gambling sites are those that have gambling as their central theme, including those that accept wagers or require payment in exchange for the chance to win prizes, as well as sites that offer both information and links related primarily to the promotion of online gambling.

For this reason, your order has been forwarded to our billing team for a full refund of the Yahoo! Directory Submit fee.

Thanks for the recommendation, do you just use submit edge for directories or other link building methods?

I have been using them for forum link building and article posting and they are always good at their jobs. Reporting is also comprehensive!
