Default ACF Fork / Takeover By Wordpress.org

FYI for those of you who use Advanced Custom Fields:

    https://www.advancedcustomfields.com...wordpress-org/

Long story short it sounds like WPE had a falling out with Wordpress.org, so Wordpress.org shut them out of the plug in directory, which now means ACF couldn't be updated by the devs and could be a security risk.

Wordpress.org have taken it upon themselves to take over ACF and have renamed it "Secure Custom Fields" - but they're not saying anything about this on the plug in page or updates, so if you update ACF automatically it will change to SCF.

If you've updated and you want ACF back you'll need to download and reinstall it from the ACF site...

Not sure what or who liaison's with some of the plugin developers at times, but it feels like in some cases wp kicks good solid plugins out at times when they should not.

Good this has been reported as this particular has a huge install base. Wonder what they showed as # of installs before this happened?

    /additional side note
Seems like anyone who has automatic updates on this plugin will be provided code developed by "other than" the original plugin developer and that is not cool.

The comment section of the link to the blog post baldidiot posted shows a small portion of the internal wp political fight that is at the basis of this.

Matt Mullenweg, the majority owner (some say 100%) of Wordpress Foundation has gone mad.

    This video explains it

    Thanks for that video.

That explains some of the politics behind a few of the major moves we have seen the past few weeks.

I hope the legal battles and lawsuits do not harm the word press ecosytem too much.

It's just a shame that ACF has been caught up in it. If WP engine hadn't bought Delicious Brains this wouldn't be an issue...

(for ACF users, Matt and WP Engine would still be slinging poop at each other)
