What were you like in High School?

I posted this a few years ago and thought it would be fun to do again.

What were you like in High School?

I breezed through High School on a small island but I was somewhat rebellious. Go figure : I was a brat.

One thing that stands out I cracked up, our Science teacher was so mean and obnoxious. He had a closet in his classroom that he would disappear to for to long. Why did he go in there all the time? One day the boys in our class waited til he went in and locked him in that closet and left the class. I didn't know what to do but laugh my head off.

LOL. This is fun. Well, I was quite serious but not the nerdy type in HS. I think it would also be fun to ask everyone how they were like when they were in college?

I would say that I haven’t changed that much LOL

I was a bit of a clown making my friends laugh all the time. Always ready with the sarcastic remarks and double meaning jokes. Most of the time seating at the end of the classroom where I used to exchange test answers with my best friends (don’t tell my son).

I remember being a bit of a prankster back in HS. One time before class I superglued a 50c coin to the floor next to the canteen line, and watched as different people would notice it and try and pick it up

Used to write a lot of techno back then and spent every recess and lunchtime on the basketball courts. There was one time where me and a buddy jigged class to go and play and the teacher actually came out to the courts and made us go to class lol

Had crazy hops back then too.. ahh the good old days!

Academically I was pretty nerdy at HS. I was in the highest classes and getting 100% in all my tests. My parents didn't care much to see my results anymore because they just expected to see them so high, so they would put my sister's 55% general math test on the fridge on top of my 99% 3 unit math test.

Other than that I was bullied pretty badly too for having such curly, frizzy hair (and I was quite an ugly teenager too). My bullied nickname was spring-head and I was even spat on. Having a last name like mine (and a tv ad that said my full name) didn't help either. People would yell my name down the hallways. I chemically straighten my hair now too

It's weird how things change over the years. Those people who bullied me, half of them are dead, poor, or still working at mcdonalds (not that there is anything wrong with working at mcdonalds - i worked there for 4.5 years as a teenager).

College (or uni as we call it here) was a bit different. Still had the arseholes that used to tease me at school but because I made friends with more people they didn't bother me as much. I didn't really enjoy uni, although I chose something I really didn't have any desire to do (computer science).

damn Renee, that sux. Can't believe you got treated like that in HS, were you getting bullied by other girls?
They can be pretty ruthless!
At least you get the last laugh and have made a success of your life.
Maybe that's partly behind this type of bullying of smart kids, it reminds the bullies of what they will never amount to.

Btw what was the tv ad that said your name?

I've tried to find it but it seems it's so old it doesn't exist on the internet!

It was a barbeques galore ad and it started with a posh waiter (who's name is Rene) in a restaurant taking the order of some diners. He walks through the double doors to the "kitchen" which is outdoors and there is a guy in a terry towling hat cooking on a bbq. The waiter tells the guy the order and the guy cooking says "No worries Rene matey"... and that's the line people used to yell down the halls at school.

I got bullied by girls and guys. It was guys that spat on me.. One time for standing up for a friend of mine who couldn't speak english well. I told him to fk off and when I turned around he spat on me. I'm pretty sure that guy has been in jail lol

The guys would mostly tell me I'm ugly. Which of course hurt my feelings. And because so many people teased me it meant that the boys who actually did like me wouldn't come near me in fear of being teased themselves. I went through highschool really liking this guy and every time I would ask him out he would tell me he would think about it, then eventually tell me no. Then it was just before we left school he told me he should have gone out with me and not listening to anyone else. Of course I had gotten my very first boyfriend at the time and was actually starting to look semi-decent with the hair under control a little bit.

Edit: Just to add, I saw that guy I liked in the supermarket near my house a few weeks ago (which is weird because I've now moved over an hour away from home - seems he lives down the road from me, very strange) and he is married and looks really really OLD! HA!

People suck!
But I can tell you, if you can get through that, you can do anything!

Yeah sounds like the kids at your school sucked pretty bad, sorry you had to go through that.

I can't remember that BBQ's galore commercial, the Pete Repeat one used to be annoying for me back in the day though lol

I suppose we are lucky that when I was at school there wasn't any facebook or myspace or anything like that.
I will say that if it wasn't for that bullying I don't know what kind of person I would be today, but I'm pretty happy with the way I turned out so I don't regret anything.

I never made it that far but I did spend the best 3 years of my life in seventh grade

Actually thinking back to the funny things, we had a few.

There was this teacher who's first name was Sven and he had a peg leg. My sister had him for maths and every time they had him, her and her mates would write his name "Sven" on the board. He would come in the room and go nuts.
The same teacher had this safari van and whenever there was an issue with his classroom he was suppose to take the kids to the library for them to study. Instead he took them down and they all sat in the back of his safari van and studied there. Little bit creepy.

Now that my brother is in high school, he listens to our stories and is doing the same thing. So him and his mates write Sven on the board every day too. Apparently he has since gotten rid of his safari van

My sister also had this history teacher they didn't like, so she would put a movie on for them and they would lock her out of the room. She had this really nasally voice that was super annoying. Anyway, they found this wooden gold paddle somewhere (who knows where) and they would put it on her desk every day before class. It was huge! The teacher would take it out of the room after getting angry then put it in some bins outside her classroom. They would take it back and do the same thing the next day.

So with the same gold paddle I started doing the same thing to my english teacher when we were in year 11/12. He would get so angry and had no idea who was putting it on his desk. Then on the last day of school our class signed it and put it on his desk and he kept it and put it in a cupboard in his room. Of course he found out it was me who did it, so decided to try to joke around with me in class.. I can't remember how the conversation went but the class ended up laughing about something, and I thought we were laughing at another guy in the class, so i turn around and say "why are you laughing? The joke was about you!" and the whole class laughs even harder and says "No it was about you! (me)" so i turn to look at the teacher and he starts laughing so I thought OK ill get you back. After that i started drawing penises on his carpet with chalk and gluing things to his desk. He never did find out who that was.

I never really got in trouble at school. The teachers did like me a lot, probably coz i was smart and liked to learn. My sister on the other hand was terrible and the teachers hated her. The deputy principal always got us confused (even though we look nothing alike) and would call me down the hall by her name. Of course I would never stop because I knew he didn't mean me, but one day he yelled at me in front of a bunch of kids, calling me her name and I snapped at him. Told him that he is referring to my sister, Renee is my name, and if he would like to embarrass me again in front of people for no reason I will pay him the same respect. Asshole!

My french teacher apparently still talks about me as her best student ever (according to my brother). I came top 10% in the state for my HSC in French which apparently was a pretty awesome achievement that hasn't been met before or since.

We used to have to submit a journal every week for English, which was 1 page that we had to write every day, and the teacher was supposed to read it and mark it completed at the end of the week, but my teacher was kinda lazy and would just skip to the last page and initial it completed without reading it.

So it became a bit of a running joke for me and my friends to see what we could write in there and get away with each week. I started off just writing rubbish to try and fill up the page, occasionally I'd write scripts for pornos in the 1st person, and there was one really funny one where I was a pizza delivery man and the lady didn't have any money with her.. etc

It felt a bit like Russian roulette every week walking up to the teacher's desk and praying she wouldn't read it and just sign it off lol. Anyway one day I had my journal book out in art class and was showing it off to one of my buddies what I'd gotten away with that week, but when the bell went and I left the class I accidently left it on the desk. The next day my art teacher Mrs Robson handed me the exercise book and said "I hope you got paid for the pizza". And I had no idea what she meant cos I totally forgot about that entry, it didn't click until later and I burst out laughing

The art teachers at my school were actually pretty funny though, we had this really weird one named Mr Chaplin who loved messing with people's heads. During year 12 I would work on my major art project in the adjoining room from where he was teaching so could hear some of the stuff that was going on. There was this one day where he had a year 8 class and one of the girls asked him "Mr Chaplin you know that art teacher with the long grey hair is it true that he's gay?" and he replied back, "I don't know, how about we ask him..." and he left the room, meanwhile this year 8 girl is shitting herself. A few minutes later he comes back with the teacher and said to the girl "what was it that you wanted to ask?"

So anyway she asked the teacher and he was like, "no I'm currently divorced but I was married for 15 years etc" but the way it all happened I thought was pretty hilarious. Evil teacher hahah

It was supposed to happen last year but noone organised anything. I guess that goes to show how much everyone hated each other.

I did also find out after leaving that at lunch time the people in my year would go down to the creek and smoke bongs and give each other blow jobs...

Most of them had kids straight after we left school and didn't even bother going to uni. All married people we went to school with, then divorced and married someone else we went to school with. etc etc
Couple have died from drug overdoses etc.

Just goes to show what having a good family will bring you I suppose

i was popular for two reasons the druggies could always score I did well finacially in school, and I was dam good at sports so was among the first freak picked in gym class, now as to other issues i pushed the envelope open, i was wild crazy had a ball and was on deans honor list lol i ws the anti christ back then... hello everyone lol i'm mike and new to the forum
