I literally have no idea why people do this kind of thing - make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Has there been any indication of who or why yet?

Hope all of our GPWA'ers who are in the area are safe and sound!

drives me insane, there are plenty of people that will have completely the opposite ideologies who would quite happily get their hands dirty they could fight yet choose to attack innocent and defenceless people. Cowards to a man, whoever they are

Our offices, fortunately, are not near the blast sites. We're just a couple of miles from the middle of the marathon route. I have to admit, as much as I'm angry about what's happened, I'm choosing to focus on the incredible spirit shown by the people in and around the race. If you look at the photos and videos and read the stories, everyone's first instinct was to help others. Restaurants giving runners food and blankets, people watching the race adopting runners and giving them shelter for the night, fans in attendance making sure that injured runners received medical care, runners and fans who were doctors and nurses immediately reporting to the medical tent to help out. First responders from other cities came immediately to help out. And the list goes on. For all the things that divide us, this spirit that unites us is a remarkable force, and deserves to be appreciated and admired.

Thank you for sharing your positive thoughts about people helping and caring for each other during the tragedy yesterday. Your words have changed my feeling of sadness. You have made me feel hope...for all of us and our society. My heart aches for my Boston friends and everyone around the world that this has affected.

Its crazy how someone can do this to an event where it brings together people from all over the world like this. It reminds me a lot of what happened in the Olympics in Atlanta some years back. I hope they find whoever is behind this and lock him/her/them up for life!

Glad to see you got the evil little ba***rd. Hope you can now get back to normal, as much as possible in the circumstances.

Vin - you'll need to turn the music down in the office again.

During my last week of holidays in SA I was glued to the tv watching the news about this. It got to a point where we were up at stupid hours of the morning just to see if they had caught them yet.

It's scary to think that you could be living next door or even friends with someone who would do this without ever knowing what they are capable of.

I hope none of the community lost any loved ones.

This is all so very sad to me.

I watched on TV those mile long lines of Armored vehicles and Humvee's and over 10,000 Homeland Security Troops roll into Boston... Just to catch one 19 year old kid with a gun. Then I saw the Homeland security troops were forcing innocent Americans out of their homes, then searching their homes and their persons WITHOUT a Warrant... Searching people that obviously had nothing to with the bombing, like little kids and 65 year old men and women.

I saw the end of the America I grew up in.

IMO We may have killed Osama bin Laden, but he won. He turned my country into a crazy nation of fear filled people that are more than willing to give up their hard won Liberty and Freedom for the illusion of Government Security.

    A very sad day indeed.

Nice interview with Anderson Cooper with the young woman who lost her foot. She's a dance instructor, planning to get back on the boards with a plan, amongst others, to teach him to dance. A challenge, apparently.

Americans went a good ten years without anything from the Islamic nutters. I suppose that's a positive. We had the underground bombers during that period. I'm still genuinely not sure what they want - is there something in the Koran that can be interpreted as Thou Shalt Kill As Many As Possible or do they actually want something tangible? I'm curious. The IRA were moreorless appeased. Seems this lot are a lost cause.

Difficult to be clear on this issue when at the moment the reasoning and motivation for the attack is not certain

Not really, everyday we have been reminded and frightened by our news media and government, everyday... We have had shoe bombers and underwear bombers, the tooth bomber, Anthrax attacks and other everyday random acts of "Terror", like kids wearing T shirts with pictures of guns on them...

And of course, we have the everyday reminders of our "War on Terror" with the constant violations of our Personal Liberty, with everyday violations to our privacy, Unconstitutional searches of our persons and seizures of our property at Airports and Government buildings and by the Police in general.

Americas "War on Terror" has IMO really been a "War on American Liberty".

From the stuff I've read it seems like these people are vulnerable anyway, then they start reading things about the American people that are untrue which fuels their hatred and makes them want to hurt the people.

The thing that makes me the saddest about it is that it is a very small group of people (extremists) who do this stuff and people then start to hate their religion and anyone who is of it because of the extremists when it's the majority of the people in that religion who just want to live their lives in peace.

One thing I saw on the news that I thought was actually out of line was the news guys interviewing the uncle. They were asking about his brother (presumably the boys' father) and asking where he lives. The uncle said "if you get in the car and follow me I will take you there". The news reporter said "wait one moment while I get a pen to write down the address". They then asked him for it and he said it over live news which they kept running so the whole planet would know where he lived.

The thing that pissed me off about that is there are also people out there who just go nuts when these things happen and want to seek revenge on anyone possible. So even if the father had no idea about any of it, people now know where he lives and are free to go to his house. I could be the only person who sees it this way, but I thought that was really unprofessional of the news guys and actually just plain old fkd up.

If my brother or sister did something that I had no knowledge of, I'd not want them saying my address on live tv where everyone can come to my house, break in, and even hurt me when I had nothing to do with it.
