Default anyone sold his/her business (or parts of it) over the years?

In the last two years, I've been deeply involved in managing coding (and coding myself) sites, so basically I've became cut off from the business perspective of our niche. I'm asking stupid questions on this forum, I have no idea which bookie is licensed where and other stuff like that. So here's another question:

Did anyone sold their business, or parts of it (by that I mean single websites from a portfolio) over the years? I suppose some of you sold domain names, but I am curious about selling established sites - especially in sports betting.

If yes, how much was it? 3-4-5-6 figures? More?

What did the buyer take into account when making the offer?

I don't want to sell anything, nor have I received any offers. I'm just curious. But I want to work towards an exit in a few years, because I'm sick of this

No experience but my research for online gambling is forums are great places and places like Empire flippers and flippa.

It seems there are many brokers in the industry too.

Probably is best to have the most exposure to find the most buyers.

Just build your site to make sure it is trending up.

Several years ago, we had a site ranking top 3 for a hollywood term and we had a few people contact us about a sale. So if you get a site ranking well enough, buyers may contact you.

I have sold several websites from my network over the years and in all instances I was approached with an offer I couldn't refuse.
Once one of the big guys who are known for buying networks ( can't mention the name ) offered me 6 figures for my network and affiliate accounts, but there was too many conditions attached at the time that I backed out of the deal. Things like half payable upfront, network gets handed over, if affiliate income drops by more than 20% over the next 6 months, the second half isn't payable etc. It was just too risky.

I sold a site earning $25,000 a month in 2015 and we got paid 30 months revenue .He was interested in more but we were not ready at that point. I have purchased a few since then and offloaded a few smaller sites. Site is still performing well for him but took a hit on revenue giants and Fortune affiliates like we all did.

Thank you all for your replies. The problem I see (for me) is that sports betting is very different from casino. Negative carryover can hit you for many months in a row, and building a stable number of daily active users takes a lot more time than in casino.

This means I'm in the wrong business.

So basically what I understand is that a sports betting site needs a lot of traffic to make things interesting (since in sports you can really get a lot of traffic), while casino is less traffic with higher income and competition.

I am curious if any of you sold a sports betting site - because I guess everyone who posted until now sold a casino related site(s).

The site I was talking about (where I was approached) was a sports one.

I depends on the type of traffic you have.

I believe it is about whales. In both casino and sports.

It supports your idea, but from different angle. You need a lot of traffic to catch the whale and the whale is not born overnight. You need a good book and good RS and good program that will not close thee door in few months or years. You will not see a person losing millions if they screw you.

The most important part on the top of the work is to have imagination and see or estimate who will pay you in 2, 5 or 10 years. This is much more important than to have 35 or 45% RS. Since I would not bet now that anyone will pay me in 5 or 10 years, then it is a game over. It is not interesting anymore. Programs will catch 100% of income of whales.
If you talk to God, you are praying; If God talks to you, you have schizophrenia.

Well, in this case it seems that I caught only great white sharks in my life, still waiting for a whale.

Not to mention 3 months (and counting) of negative on all my accounts (I have three accounts only at bet365).

no, 4 figures but still very annoying and "not-so-expected".

Ask if you can start over with a new account and not have any negatives.

Sold a few sites for low 5 figures. Sold my big site for mid-7 figures. Currently in the process of selling another one of my sites in the high 6 figure range.

The two 5 figure sales were easy. Just used escrow.com. The 7 figure sale was a bunch of back and forth with lawyers, etc. Cost 10k in legal fees.

Glad to hear your success story Still, it's hard for me to estimate the value of the traffic to a site (besides the betting accounts).

Search engine traffic means 95% Google, which is very, very volatile especially lately. I know only a bunch of sites for which I can be sure (kind of) their SE traffic will be more or less steady in the upcoming years.

The evaluation is based on revenue, but revenue is directly linked to traffic. In the gambling niche we are lucky, most of the revenue is recurring so at least the buyer might get something in return. Traffic, though, is never guaranteed.

Tbh, I think this is becoming even more of a reason to sell a site when it's doing well - cash in whilst the going is good.

So guys, keep in mind that the whole thread is aimed at selling sites but with emphasis on sports betting sites, not casino. I've dealt with casino for a short period and it's way, way more profitable than sports betting. This is why I am getting back to sports betting when I ask questions

    So:

Ideally, sell the site without the betting account. This means monetisation should be done with more programs which are not in the gambling niche. Ezoic, Adsense (I use Adsense with betting, btw) and some CPM networks which are advertising betting sites. In this case, to reach mid 5 figures you need around 200k SE users/month in best case scenario (not Nigerian traffic, for example). Profit x30, you can go up to 40-50k for a site.

I am building 3 more sites at the moment, myself. Back and front end done by me (I have time). In 1-2 years, I plan to sell them.

Here's the issue: the buyer must have at least a programmer. It's not like selling WP sites, which are pretty straightforward. There are servers, databases and complex scripts on the backend, and the same complexity on the front end (which I always find to be a pain in the a**). This could be an issue for a potential buyer which wants the "domain and articles" and he's good to go.

I am also thinking about starting an SaaS business in the sports/odds niche. I think it's a "must-try" because revenue is at least steady if the product is good.

With our widgets, we are serving over 6 million hits per month for free - and I disabled app integration, and, on a weekly basis, streaming sites which are popping out every day. This means there's some market for a paid product.
